How long were you dating before you got married?
How old were you when you asked?
How long have you two been together?
How did the guy propose? Or women if she did.
Did you live together first?
Any advice for those who arn't?

25
How long have you two been together?
8 years

Hiked to the top of a mountain with a view of the fall colored foliage. Then I popped it with the ring. She just about had a heart attack. But after saying "you're kidding?" about a million times, she said yes.
Did you live together first?
Yes in college, no ever since.
Any advice for those who arn't?
You mean advice for when and how to pop it? I say don't rush into it (haha - that should be obvious based on how long I dated!). Make sure you can weather some ups and downs. Make sure you can both grow and change and yet you are STILL be right for each other. Make sure you get through one of those periods where you or bored or frustrated with each other, and yet you still come out the other side wanting nobody else.
Just my 2 cents, everybody does it differently

dated 7yrs
proposed at 27yrs old
together 7yrs (together = dating ? right) if not then almost 6 yrs married
Flew her out to New Orleans for a long weekend, post a business trip I had there. We stayed in a swank pad in the Quarter, ate tons of great food and drank tons of booze. I totaly shocked her with the proposal in the private vine covered garden courtyard of our hotel. pretty good job on my part if I do say so myself!
yes, lived together 6yrs
plan a small wedding (we had 30 people and payed for it all ourselves, which meant to interference from family

)
Good luck!

it amuses me that this thread is next to one titled "Lol, So I'm thinking of doing the unthinkable"

lol.
So are you thinking of getting married Justin? My gf kept pointing out promise rings at the jewelry stores in the mall last night, then hit me in the side when i pointed out the 50 dollar promise rings at Kohls.

Ha! I bet that what people are thinking by me making this thread. I'm a wee bit to young and poor for that.
50 bones is plenty for a promise ring. You should promise not to buy her one if she keeps hitting you.

Fo shizzy.
If she really loves you, she wouldn't insist on making your union legal. That's all marriage is, getting lawyers and government involved in your relationship. Poisons any relationship faster than you can say "Wha'd I do wrong?"
But I seriously doubt any women are willing to give up marriage and the legal rights that come with it.

marriage seems like a bit of a waste of time/money/energy.

Pre-nup.

Pre-nups are a nice idea in theory, but try getting your partner to agree to one. Just mentioning the topic will more than likely start an argument...
Laurel, I suppose these generalizations don't apply to you; way to be different.
