Is my Clutch M.C reservior Larger than yours?

Iam in the process of trying to intall a wrx intercooler.

Everything is moved, coolant tank, a/c line, wiring harness etc. But when fitting the intercooler in the lip on the bottom, where the end tank is attached, is sitting right on top of the clutch master cylinder, with no hope of clearing.

Now I have searched this forum for an answer to this but to no avail. It doesn't even come close to sitting as low as the intercoolers I have seen in pictures on this forum.

This is what lead me to thinking mine may be "extra" tall.

Any help?

You are ahead of me but I was wondering the same thing. I put my WRX intercooler in place to get an idea of interferences and thought that the M/C for the clutch would be a problem also. Some have said that the WRX cylinder is shorter.

Is your AC line hard pipe with that rise as it moves towards the center? What di d you do woth it?

Keep updating your progress, I'm interested in how you it goes for you.

I just pushed the a/c line underneth the dog bone. When you do that it clears the intercooler with ease.

I just found this pic of Threshld1's install, and my clutch master cylinder's reservior looks completely different to the one in the photo.

Top right corner.

No wonder it goes in so much easier for some guys.

Where could I get one of these?

I don't think that's a stock Legacy Turbo master cylinder.

I actually think it's a WRX master cylinder.

That's no US WRX master cylinder. I'd assume it's from some LHD Turbo from some country.

Well I went to the dealership, and it says that the one in the picture is the one that "technically" should be on my car(1994 Turbo). So I ordered it.

Huh. Did they give you the part number?

No, but I can get the part number when I pick it up on wednesday.

The one in the pic looks nice. Like you wouldnt have to take out the intercooler to add fluid.

Yeah, exactly. That's why I think it's from a model that came with an intercooler.

The new WRX uses one that actually has the reservoir at an angle.

My info says that all 5MT first-gen turbos used part number 37230AA011, and every 5MT first-gen turbo I've seen had the same straight-vertical-reservoir master cylinder.

Ditto.

I'd be curious to see what part # the one in the pic is....or if the parts guy got things mixed up.

haha glorious! i thought it fit all too well with it being offset and all (very happy i didnt have to replace that). Its the cylinder that came with the car when i bought it. As far as i could tell its never been intercooled or moded at all untill i went at it.
Yeah its kinda nice not having to take the IC out to check/fill it too :-D

Ill see if i cant get a part # off the thing when i get back in there. Im gonna be making myself a rail mount for the IC soon enough anyways. FYI the clearance is still only about |----| (~1/4") that much between the bottom of the IC and the fill cap.

My a/c lines i just removed because the system didnt have a charge and i can deal with it later when i feel like converting it to R134a. Not like it gets that hot in MN anyways...

Why did you have to post the pic with my DP test fitted... it taunts me sitting in the shop untill i extend my new mid-pipe. :(

OK, I got the part number for the angled master cylinder reservior, it is part number 37235AA000.

Is that part number for just the reservoir or is it for the whole clutch master cylinder assembly? EDIT: it is just the oil reservoir, $8.07 at www.subarugenuineparts.com

Will this angled reservoir attach right up to the stock clutch master cylinder body? Hope so, thanks for finding it.

Whichever it is you would have to bleed the system after filling the new reservoir. I am thinking that speed bleeders would fit on the slave cylinder and on the damper which would make bleeding easier for me. I have used a mighty mite vacuum pump to bleed the clutch hydraulic system and was not happy with its performance, but got it done.

When you change the reservoir you shouldnt need to bleed the system. Just be sure to leave a little fluid in the bottom, and DONT step on the clutch.

Yes it will directly replace the one that is on your car. :D

You're the best. I'm going to get one. I'll get the turkey baster out of the kitchen and suck the fluid right out of the reservoir. I do wish I had purchased speed bleeders for the damper and slave cylinder when I had the system all apart though. Don't want to do it now. I hate bleeding that system.

Its easier at home just to stick some rolled up paper towel in there and it absorbs the fluid.

And gets microfibers in the brake fluid. A clean turkey baster is better.

just make sure you buy the owner of said baster a replacement baster first.

That is the part # for the standard/normal resevoir.

You bought the resevoir right? It had that part # on the bag/box?

They must have changed the design, and not updated the part #.

I have already ordered that part number. Subarugenuineparts. Jamie said there was only one in the country. I told her that there might be a few others looking for one. Japan would send more. Hope it is the offset one!

When you get it, please confirm that it is the angled one.....take a picture if you can.
