Auto tranny having problems moving out of Park
It seems the safety mechasim is not working properly. All tailights are working properly so it seems that whatever part does it is going south because it does it on and off.
It is a solenoid? Anyone has the part number, price and diagram?
Some way to dissable it while I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Define having trouble. Does the safety switch engage, but the shifter doesn't want to move? Or is it that you don't hear the click of the safety switch after pressing the brake three or four times?

You should be able to push the little red button thing to get the gear selector out of park if you're in a bind and the interlock system isn't working.

Yes, the shifter doesn't want to move but I don't remember ever hearing the safety switch. If you mean the "click" that sounds when you start pressingManarius wrote:Define having trouble. the brake then I will have to wait until my wife comes back from some errands.
What red button do you mean? I looked for the override button and what I felt (I didn't look 'cause I checked it at night) was some kind of opening and what felt like a bolt in front of the shifter case.Legacy777 wrote:You should be able to push the little red button thing to get the gear selector out of park if you're in a bind and the interlock system isn't working.
Because I have to go shopping with wife tomorrow

You just push the button to get the gear shifter out of park. After it's out of park, you can let go of the button.

ah, now, my 94 turbo wagon doesnt have an actual button. it had a rubber grommet cover, which you pry out, and then you have to stick a long screwdrirver down in to the bolt thing there, and then press down and shift to defeat the auto-lock safety shift.
not all the autotragics will have the actual button there. brent

time it get stuck?
every time it is stuck you will have to press it in.
check the 2 electrical connectors for the transmission, they are big square electrical plugs down by the firewall/transmission area, check those connectors, maybe one is corroded/shorted

first i tried using some wire.
but for some odd reason the car wouldnt start. so i switched to a zip tie and it started right up. that was the only thing i changed.
