can I run some ej22t cam sprockets on SOHC ej25 heads?
what I am concerned about is the keyway and sensors being in the same place, as well as the mounting surface diameter.

they fit on just fine but the question remaining is wether or not the timing marks are going to work. if the cam keyway is in the same spot head to head, it will work but if not...

Since no one seems to know yet, including myself, my guess is that it would work. The usdm dohc 2.5 heads work with the ej22t shortblock and stock cam sensors just fine correct? My guess is that it should work, but perhaps sourcing a picture of the back of an ej22t driverside cam gear to compare with yours would probably prove most helpful. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Couldn't you just check to see if the keyway and the timing marks are the same by holding them both up to the head and looking at the marks in relation to the keyway?

I've got both sprockets lying on my bench right now... they are different, the timing "marks" (for lack of a better word) are the same pattern but at different angles from the pin. The change in angle seems to match the difference in sensor mounting location on the heads, but I have yet to measure and confirm this. The pin is the reference to the cam, I dont think the EJ22T uses the key and the DOHC sprockets dont even have the keyway. The pin location could probably be relocated to match the sensor.
Another difference is that the DOHC sprockets have magnets in the timing marks, the EJ22T's are only metal protrusions in the casting. I have read that the magnets will work with the EJ22T sensor but dont know if the non-magnetic nubs on the EJ22T sprocket will work with the DOHC sensor.
I'll go snap a few pics.

Here's the pics...
A quick eyeball with the protractor show an 18deg difference and the EJ22T sprocket sits about .060" deeper so the nubs are closer to the head. And of course because of the depth of the right side DOHC sprockets the EJ22T pulley wont work on that side. The heads in the pics are EJ20G (EJ20N), but I believe the USDM DOHC heads have the same sensor postion, the EJ22T heads have the sensor rotated further from center line at what looks to be about the same angle added to the sprocket (sorry no pic, the heads are on the car).

Thats some good information to know. So the trigger marks are the same, but they won't work since they position the cam sensor at a different angle to compensate for the different angle of the pin. 206er, can you confirm that the SOHC 2.5 cam gear you have looks like that jdm 2.0 DOHC cam gear?

That JDM DOHC gear is nothing like the SOHC Phase II gears, I'll post picks later, I have the SOHC one in my car, gotta go gram the EJ22 one.

The Phase II EJ25 SOHC sprockets are the same timing as the EJ22. The sproket itself is thicker and the sproket area is thiner. This means you need to use the EJ25 timing belt. The tooth spacing is the same and the diameter is the same. Plus the Crank cogs are identical. so for the swap, use the EJ25 SOHC heads along with the gears and the EJ25 belt and you'll be dandy.
Pics, rusty one is EJ22, Shiny one is EJ25 SOHC
and the crank gears

wow, thanks! much appreciated.
no reason i couldnt run the ej22e sprockets then along with the ej22e belt? reason being is that the ej22e are the only sprockets I have.

no, you couldn't do that, the EJ25 sprocket is thicker and offset which brings the surface of the gear in line with the other cogs for hte timing belt. The face of the cam on the EJ25 head is farther back, so if you ran the EJ22E gears on the EJ25 head the gears wouldn't line up with the belt.
