Hey there, i just bought a 93 legacy L and love it!! but the A/C compressor just started knocking and i wanna fix it seeings how were going into summer!! SO my questions are. What is the process i must go through, I can get a new used compressor for 100 bucks. What else do i need to buy. I would kindof like to buy everything i need, and then just take the parts to a shop and have them put everything on. What other parts will i need besides my compressor and how much total cost am i looking at here? Any info is very appreciated as im kindof new to this! thanks...

These compressors are poorly designed, they have a wobble type compressor. Well....because of that, they are not 100% rebuildable. It's possible you could get an ok rebuild one, but you could also get one that'll eventually fail again.
Either way, you are going to need a new compressor. I wouldn't recommend a used one pulled from another car. I've been through two of them...they both died.
I ended up buying a new compressor from Subaru.
You pretty much need a compressor, refrigerent, receiver/drier, and oil. If you decide to convert to 134a, I'd suggest PAG oil. I think the esther oil is partially the reason why the used compressors died.
Here's my thread on my conversion

To be quite honest, I'd just drive the car until the compressor dies. You or the shop still has to clean out all the lines so the metal flakes are not contaminating the system. So whether you have everything done now, or done later.....it really shouldn't matter.
A/C work is expensive.....especially if it's summer time because shops know you have to have it. You're probably looking at a couple hundred in labor, depending on the shop.
