Hey there, have just bought a 2l turbo engine out of a 91 facelift GT Legacy to put in a jet boat.
The facelift engine is slightly different in that the wiring lume only has 2 main plugs as opposed to 3.
How come this model engine doesnt have an oil cooler between the oil pump and oil filter like the other models do. Is is located else where on the car or did they think they didnt need them. Its the 2nd time ive come across this.
I presume i would need an oil cooler in a boat as there would be no cool air running past???
Look forward to answers/queries!

2L?

Sure its not 2.2L?

The 92 Legacy Turbos didn't have oil coolers, only the 91s did.

Im abolutly positive. Im in NZ, its a jap import and i think they are different to what you guys have in the states.
Its a factory ej20T, intercooled.
Why did they do away with the oil cooler??

Well, being in NZ, it might be different, but the prefacelift Turbos here in the States had the oil coolers, while the facelift ones didn't.

I don't see why you couldn't add one.

Yeah thats the same here. But why did they do that??
Its just a pain because theres only 2 tails out of the water pump as opposed to 3, so may have to change the water pump so as I can get water to the oil Cooler.

Does anyone know why they did away with the oil cooler??

Probably cuz they didnt feel it was necessary

If you;re adding an oil cooler, why not use an air-cooled one?

Makes more sense to me to cool it with 20 degree air instead of 80 degree water.

Yeah makes sence but its going in a jet boat and there aint much cool air unless i put in a fan which kinda gets complicated

You can tee the oil cooler into one of the existing lines on the other side of the water pump. The one going to the turbo, for example, is the same size as the oil cooler hose.

I actually teed mine into the turbo line behind the intake manifold, havent had any problems
