Hey guys, puttin the EJ22T in my Legacy L. I have a 5sp manual FWD right now. The question is can I use the flywheel off the NA or do I need a turbo specific flywheel?

As far as I know the turbo legacy's have hydraulic clutches. Being that I want to keep mine FWD for a while that takes out the possibility of using a turbo clutch. I want to get a beefier clutch to reduce slippage. Anyone know where I can get a "street/strip" style clutch that will fit into the fwd legacy?

You shouldn't have to change anything on the transmission side. If you get a 2.5 RS flywheel, you can run a clutch/pp setup from them.

The key to all the flywheel & clutch swapping stuff is to keep the set (flywheel, clutch, & pp) matched to whatever vehichle/model you're wanting to use.....(as long as it's the correct clutch configuration)

even though the 2.5 RS is AWD? i was looking around as well, for my FWD Impreza. they would have different part numbers for FWD 1.8 Impreza, and AWD 1.8 Impreza. there was a different spline count also, the site had said.

I second that...I thought AWD Clutches were different than FWD. I could be wrong...you guys know a lot more about Legacy's than I do.

The info I have does not show any difference between the FWD & AWD legacy clutches.

It's possible the new 2.5 RS clutches are different from the early legacy clutches. But, like I said, if you use a 2.5 RS flywheel, clutch, & pp.....you should be fine.

I don't know too much about the 2.5RS are all 2.5RS pp, clutches, and flywheels the same regardless of year? Do you happen to know of any place that sell cheap RS parts?

that would happen with any AWD eventually, wouldnt it? is there any difference between an impreza FWD tranny, and a legacy FWD tranny?

Hey doug, you are running fwd? Or are you running a non-hydraulic awd cluth/tranny setup? Pardon my noobness but the Forester flywheel is better than the stock flywheel thats already in my FWD NA? What is the difference in the two (same goes for the pp)?

Havent trashed a tranny yet due to racing. Misshift in traffic yes, but not drag racing.


I am not FWD. But if you are going to be putting out alot of power, a stock NA disk will fail.

The forester flywheel is very heavy and absorbs alot of shock in my opinion. And it was new and cheap.

The RS pressure plate has more clamping force than a stock legacy, I THINK, I very well could be wrong. And once again, it was CHEAP.

And it all works awesome.

The engine is not different between FWD & AWD cars. Nor is the spline count/spacing on the transmission input shaft.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a turd....but I feel like this question has been answered, and beaten to death.

i just wanted to know if someone is actually running an AWD clutch on a FWD tranny. someone who actually has done it. thats all. i just got conflicting information from a website, saying it was different.

I purchased a full race 6 puck clutch/pressure plate/ TO Bearing kit... It'll hold up to 500 HP. I'm building for about 300.
It was designed for my 91 SS, however it was $377.00

I wasn't owned, I just bought retail...

Too bad I didn't know about the cheaper alternative of impreza based upgrades...

You should be more worried about spinning your input-shaft free of the teeth which reside on it.

Ok, so the forester flywheels are meatier than the FWD flywheels. But what if I used a stock Legacy AWD NA - Flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch?

Another (maybe stupid) question. The car this is all going into has about 90 kmiles on it. Do I need to replace throw out bearings/pilot bearings?

Ok, just reporting back to everyone. 98 RS Flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch all do fit nicely with this combo.

And now that she's runnin boy is she fun...no slips!
