springs, perches, and struts setup for rallyx

The purpose:
we are setting up our rallycross car for this year.

The car
the car is a 1990 FWD legacy L 5MT sedan.

it currently has stock springs on GR2 struts.

it also has stock sway bars front and rear.

The plan
i would like to use the stock tophats.

i would like to have as close to #200 front and rear as possible.

the car has a serious toe out issue in the rear that i dont want to solve as it makes it very fun for rally cross. so i dont need to worry about setting the car up to be "loose" in the rear end.

from the compendium thread it seems that i can use springs for a 04-06 WRX in combination w/my rear GR-2s and my stock tophats. however, i can not use the 04-06 springs up front w/my GR-2s and stock tophats.

so i would need the front tophat from a 04-06 WRX to make the front springs from a 04-06 WRX work on my 90 FWD legacy?

using 04 STI fronts gets a bit confusing as one post says they bolt right up and another post says they dont.

I would love to use the springs from a 04 STi on this car.

do you think the 224 front 194 rear spring rates from the 04 USDM STi will too much for the GR-2?

i wish i knew what the preload was on them. as i would love to have some more preload on the front to help keep the inside tire planted a bit more during cornering. maybe the giant 25mm Tribecca sway bar would help there?

also thinking of trying the Forester control arm bushings and bracket as talked about in THAWA's thread here:

http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=26506

or just make some ghetto garage spacers and call it good and save a few dollars. more caster is always a bonus, especially in rallycross.

reading about the ALK on whiteline's site makes me want one even more for rally cross. maximized front end grip and minimized understeer is what i am looking for. and it seems the ghhetto spacers would be the best (ie. cheapest) way to do that.

so perhaps that would be the thing to test first and change springs later. we have a two day rally cross coming up in june. that would be the perfect opportunity to test and tune set up stuff. we could fiddle with setup stuff overnight and see what happens the next day with everything fresh in our minds.

Cliff notes:
i want to run the USDM 2004 STi springs on my 1990 FWD legacy.

good idea or bad idea?

is my plan to make it work using the stock tophats way off base?

i just got AGX's and ground control sleeve overs installed on my car and its sooo much better, the handling is great and you can get your set custom made for rates that suit your application

i agree but sadly this car allready has newer GR-2s on it and GC has said that their kit wont work on the GR-2.

i would rather spend 250 on springs rather than 750 for a AGX/Ground Control set up. such is the curse of impatience combined w/a lack of readily available funds.
