actualy im pretty certain thats just a show car, i dont think any police station would want a turbo fed F4 with IRS, it would break so much from running all day and require so much maintanance.

yeah it has speed but not many cars can out run 250hp Crown Vic anyway.
a Crown Vic can sure as hell take a severe beating on a daily basis that a Legacy couldnt take a few days of.
police cars rack up over 200k miles within about 3 years of service, for a car that has a turbo thats alot of maintenance and replacment

its gonna need to do alot more than help some one up a hill, like raming them off the road at 70mph

I beg to differ. Maybe in ramming, but I'd take a Legacy over a fwd Impala or the Intrepid or Taurus they had. Most cops don't ram cars anyway (and if they did they'd also be severely damaged - it's kind of like punching a door where you may break the door, but you'll hurt your fist too), they take a car out by spinning it which takes minimal effort. I could take out a Crown Vic in this manner with my old Legacy (or GLs for that matter). It's just leverage. I've seen cop cars blow up from high speed pursuit also (usually down to poor cooling). Another thing I'd take the Subaru over. The cooling systems are extremely well built and I've put them to the test.

Australia uses WRXs and they have local built GM and Ford V8 cars to choose from. Reputedly they went to the WRX when they couldn't catch criminals in stolen WRXs with their V8 Holdens.

I thought they used V8 Interceptors in Australia

Yeah, that's total BS, because they use the Commodore SS, and Ford Falcon XR8 which are both EXTREMELY powerful cars (read over 400hp) It would have to be one hell of a well modded WRX!!

In New Zealand (where I be from) they use the Fords and Holdens in the cities, but when you get into the mountainous regions, such as around Mt. Ruapehu, they use WRX's and RS Legacies.

Once I get into the Law Enforcement world, I will be fine with the Crown Vic and the Charger, because I will have NO conscience about beating on it...whereas I would feel bad beating up a Subie

So the crown vic is like getting drunk off of nyquil, it will do the job, but there are much better options for inebriation.
And the legacy is like 18 yr old scotch, it would be a waste to put it to such use.

Seriously, are these guys so f'ing stupid that they put those lights in the hoodscoop with NO thoughts about how the heat in that area might screw up the lights, or worse, restrict airflow to the intercooler??

but how would they catch the speeding criminals who can't outrun a 250hp Crown Vic but can outrun an Explorer?

Getting away from cops is as much outwitting them as outrunning them (unless you have a sport bike), since truly losing someone so that they are far enough back that you can duck down another exit, pull an illegal highway U-turn using the emergency vehicle crossover or whatever without being seen at high speed is difficult. Radio makes their top speed even less relevent, but there still needs to be a guy in the right place on the other end. I stop for them most of the time since it's just not worth it. Cities are the easier places to lose them than highways. Up here regular cops hardly use SUVs. I hated pulling over for a POS Blazer in Wyoming, but that place is too damn featureless to duck and hide, plus the out-of-state plate would make me easy to spot if seen doubling back.

about the WRX outrun thing, most people in the US that can afford a WRX or anyother car of that price and up, wont be running from the cops unless they are drunk which usualy makes them running away pretty usless

the Impalas arent FWD btw and we dont use the Tarus anymore, im not sure if the Intrepid is FWD ill have to look it up

here just like everyother state, we have high speed pursut vehicles like LS1 Comaros and a few late model Vettes and too many 5.0L Stangs to count

The Impala is front wheel drive, and so is the Intrepid.

hey your right sorry, i looked it up an found an article about the Impala and Intrepid, its a pretty good right up about the advantages of FWD in a patrol car, also including some disavantages.

FWD probably doesn't matter much as I've yet to meet a cop like Steve McQueen. I'd personally rather not have the unit-body construction that goes with it. The old Vics and Caprices were better due to the RWD and high polar moment of inertia (bad on a racetrack, good if you drive like you're auditioning for a stunt driving position on the street - more forgiving, easier control). So I guess for movie detail, they're definitely the way to go.

it never gets there in time, the bird isn't always in the air due to maintenence and costs, and when it is it's normally on some actual mission although sometimes that mission may be traffic control
