HELP!! Funny whinning noise & no boost!!!

Ok, so yesterday I was coming home from work, and while shifting from second to third I heard this weird chirp noise, then from third to fourth I heard the noise again, shortly followed by the beginning of a whinning noise, sorta like that noise some cars make when they are going in reverse, only a higher pitch). So I soon realize while the car is making this noise that I cannot build any boost whatsoever, that turbo would only flow enough air to equalize the engine vacuum.

I pull over, thinking its just an intercooler hose that has slipped off and I can't find anything wrong. But it started to rain so I had to try and limp it home. As I pull back into traffic the noise just sort of dissappears and I can hit boost again! It was fine the whole drive home, but this morning it started doing the same thing; making the whinning noise and not allowing me to go over 0psi. Sooooooo I have no idea whats going on, the only thing that happened recently is "Boot B" broke at the turbo inlet, I'm thinking it might have allowed the turbine to suck something in there.

If anyone has had an experience like this or anything close any input would be greatly appreciated, I'm stuck at home now becaus eI've got no transportation  I'm gonna try and pull the turbo today to see whats up. I am hoping this isn't fatal... :(

Ok, just pulled the turbo, there is about 1/8th of an inch of shaft play and the compressor blades are worn, looks like they were rubbing somehow or maybe melted a tad bit.

Does anyone know whats interchangeable between a vf11 and a vf10?? The turbo I just pulled is a vf10 and I've got a vf11, I'd like to rebuild the vf10 if I can use the vf11 parts.

On another note, if anyone wants any measurments to compare the vf10 to the vf11 just give me the location you want me to measure and I'll try my best. The vf11 is for sure smaller than the vf10. I'll post pics up later tonight.

Before reading your second post I was going to guess it might be a leak in the tubing between the compressor and the throttle.

An 1/8" is a lot of play!

If the compressor blades were rubbing the housing, then the housing should look damaged as well. Maybe even melted.

Even if parts on the VF11 and VF10 aren't the same, you can probably interchange stuff if you use the right combination of pieces. Like, as long as the compressor wheel matches the compressor housing you should be fine.

But if you're taking the turbo apart anyway, maybe you could just rebuild it as it stands?

Well I tried to pull out the bearings but I stripped one of the Torx screws that holds on this plate thingy under the compressor wheel. So I gave up. I've got a vf11 goin in, but I sure wish I had another vf10, the vf11 outlet is just so small!

The crummiest part is that my brother in law told me it was probably just an exhaust leak, so I overlooked the funny noise, but I think it might have been my bearings/compressor wheel rub the whole time. (I replaced the UP and DP gaskets)

So now I'm just gonna save up for my liberty rs ECU and a vf12 or something like a vf12...
