WRX cat back

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I couldnt find the info I was looking for. When we talk about a wrx catback, we are talking about a mid-pipe that contains a resonator and axle back. Is this correct? When I look at pics of stock legacy exhaust it seems that off the header there is a short pipe (where the cat would in on a wrx, between the downpipe and mid-pipe). this pipe on the legacy doesnt have a cat though. So what Im getting at, and I know the wrx cat back has to be lengthed and changed a little, is that if you put a wrx cat back on a legacy mated to the stock header and short pipe then you will remove the cat completely.
cliffs: wrx cat back on legacy = no cat??
