ok... so my car runs great, but i have to tell you the whole story leading up to now........
a week er so i was going to the legacy meet in p tizzle here. and my FCD shorted and fried my turbo ecu. which was a real pain in the ass. so doug, craig, and i sat in the middle of the street trying to get my car running. but at the time we didnt know that the computer was fried..
so doug and craig went on without me i stayed behind in clakamas trying to get it to run. but no luck. so my dad came out with his flat bed trailer to haul it back to beaverton. and guess what, the bolt that holds the trailer on the trailer hitch, broke as we were pushing the car up on the trailer. so the trailer popped up and ran right into the back of my dads perfect truck. doing about $4000 worth of damage......thank god my dad didnt flip out, he took it in stride and just delt with it.
so we get the car back , and after conversing with all of you and doug, i put a 91' N/A ecu in my car. i also got the MASS air flow sensor out of the donar car. switched the cam and crank sensors and then fired it up. but before i did i drilled out my old MAF so i could put the N/A sensor in. i couldnt use the N/A sensor housing because i have a blow through MAF that has beads welded on it so it would blow off.
It ran but it had a CEL. number 49, which is "Use of improper air flow sensor". i switched back and forth between both sensors and redid the soldiering that i did, just to make sure it was good.
so finally i decided to put the stock turbo MAF back in. i did, and the car would idle fine but run like shit. so earlier i was diconnecting the blue wire leading in to the MAF because thats what your supposed to do with the N/A's. the connection was back in and and not secure i guess. cause i accidentally pulled it out while it was running. The idle went to better than the stock ecu, and the CEL went off. just by diconnecting the blue wire. haha
totally by accident did i make my car run great.
the car pulls pretty well, its a turbo running on a NA ecu. it has a little more lag, but that is just due to the fact that the turbo fuel map and the NA fuel maps are different.
so no CEL, STOCK MAF with the blue wire disconnected, and running 17 psi it runs pretty damn good. bring on the piggy back....
oh yea and the cool thing is i dont need a FCD haha. i will have a technical write up coming tomorrow er so. For those who dont wanna screw their comp with a fcd. wont really improve performance but it will make it safe for those who are not confident enough to make the FCD in the turbo forum (BUT THE ELECTRONIC FCD IN THE TURBO FORUM IS A GOOD ONE, IT WORKS GREAT FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE) this is just a crazy f'd up alternative....
