my new engine

Well, the new build for my scoobie is finally on the way back to togetherness. Machine shop just delivered the heads and block today. I ported the heads out so I needed a valve job done, plus I had them take 0.015" off the deck to get the compression I needed. The block was just honed because it had gotten a little rusty from sitting. Unfortunately there is still a little bit marking left from the pitting in cyl #2. Not sure how I feel about this right now. I might just hone it down myself a little more. I am afraid the clearance might open up to much though.

The heads came out pretty mint though. I polished up the valves real nice and did a good port on them. The seats needed considerable grinding to match the bowls. Other than that I did some smoothing and port matching.

Here's some pics of the heads. I'll post up more as I put the engine back together.

oh yeah, the heads are EJ25 SOHC heads.

dang you are kicking my ass here. I wont have the money to rebuild my block/get seals/build hotside/coldside for a while here. the nickel n dime stuff is going to kill me for sure.
what areas did you port? I can see sharpend dividers, which I was planning on doing, but beyond that, cleanup of casting flaws, and port matching the intake, no further. did you do any bowl or enlarging work? from what I have read, porting these heads seriously kills the low end so a mild job not losing much port volume is what I was planning.
the cams are .345" lift!!! that is crazy small.
what pistons are you using?
how much power do you think the NA pistons will be good for at 8.3:1?

Most of the work was done on the valve seat to bowl transition. I took down the valve guides and cleaned up some casting flaws. Pretty much left the bowl alone. I've learned the hard way to be causios without a flow bench and spare heads. If I had time I'd flow this. I don't have a rig for a subaru for the flowbench. Might make one up but I'll have the engine back together by the time I do.

My compression is going to be about 9.2:1 actualy, I was planning on CCing the heads tonight after they've been cut, but i forgot to bring one home.

I don't really know how much power the NA pistons will support, but I'm planning on finding out.
