Trip With New Mods

Left Friday morning for 3 days of white water paddling on the Nicola River
about 3 hours inland from Vancouver.

New stuff included www.apracing.com front brakes with 4-pot calipers(black) and Ferodo DS 2500 pads front and back.

Load included camping gear plus one canoe, but despite the weight the vf34 with a good tune and set low at 12 pounds hauled us up the 4-lane from 700 feet to 4000 (our passes are not all that high) at a steady 75mph in top gear.

On the flatter sections some cars were travelling faster, but they couldn't maintain their pace on the steeper parts--no probs for the twgn. :-)

River levels were good and the DMS suspension with the shocks set fairly soft provided a nice ride on the good gravel road to one of the put-ins. The 40mm street version has 30 clicks from soft to hard and at the current setting it's a lot firmer than stock.

Spring rates are 225 front and 180 rear, which was the Rocket Rally recommendation. The shocks are inverted and for more info check www.dmshocks.com

Then on Monday drove to Whistler Mountain and came down one pass on a tight two-lane paved road that included some 15% grades. With the 95F heat the brakes were impressive, but considering the weight I didn't cook them.

Spent half a day riding the lifts up and the bikes down the mountain bike park (not the wild parts). www.whistlerblackcomb.com

Quite a week end :D :D :D

The trip provided a range of tests of the improvements, and the versatility is outstanding.

The ride is set a half inch higher than stock for better clearance on the bad roads so it feels like driving a SUV.--just kidding

Track time will provide the ultimate test and hopefully this can be done in late October.

I want to get a couple passes with my roo at the local dragstrip before I do any modding. All I have is a K&N right now. I need to have a concrete starting point. Once I get going with all I want to do to it, my uncle is a bigwig at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. He says he can fit me in for 15 laps once in a while when there's a break in the races.
