Hey all,
I bought some SPAX racing springs from the U.K. last week, and the seller backed out and returned my money. I need to get some springs for my 91' SS by the end of next week. I don't know if springs built for newer models will fit. Do you guys think you could help me out? Any links to ebay auctions would be great. Will Tein-S springs built for the 2005+ Legacy GT fit on my SS?
Thanks, Devan

check the very top thread of this subforum titled
"04+ impreza rear springs on First gens."
Whitline control springs which are available at pdm-racing.com come to mind for direct fitment.
also 00+ Legacies have a different rear suspension design so that stuff doesn't work.

great thanks! Will aftermarket WRX springs work? Like Eibach's or Tein's?

yes, as long as they're 04+ springs on a 90-91. However, stock WRX springs apparantly lower the car close to an inch, so an aftermarket spring that lowers a WRX will drop a legacy down even more. Possibly too far for the struts, bump stops, and camber curve.

thanks jamal,
Will these work? Would you suggest them?

I wouldn't put on s-techs if they were free.
they lower a wrx too much. You'd basically be riding on the bumpstops.
what do you want the springs for and how old are the struts?

I am getting new struts for the rear and the fronts are in great shape. I need to find some springs that will lower the car less than 1.5" and give it tighter handling. I am upgrading to a vf-39 and I need to match the power with how the car will handle. What would you suggest for springs? I need to find some good deals. Like less than 200 bucks.

You don't want to go much lower or stiffer on stock struts. I think pretty much all aftermarket WRX springs are going to be too low. I imagine a set of Prodrive springs for a wrx would lower your car close to two inches. Bascially that's way too much if you want it to handle because of the suspension geometry.
Two springs I can think of that would work are the whitelines or some 04+ WRX wagon springs. The wagon has rates more suited to our cars according to the compendium. I don't know the rates of the Whitelines off hand but I think they're a little stiffer. More expensive though.

Alright, I'll have a look for stock WRX wagon springs.
How about these? They are built for our cars

The rears of those won't fit your 91 unless you change to 92-94 rear strut mounts and top hats.
Speaking as someone who has done the 04 WRX spring swap, I highly, highly recommend it. Do 04+ WRX springs with GR2's, and your car will be lower, handle a helluva lot better, and still be somewhat compliant in everyday driving.

its pretty easy to make a legacy handle worse than stock by adding the wrong performance parts.

thanks scott. I have found a set of wrx springs. I'm waiting until I win them to give all of the details.
