It could be the cam seal on the rear of one of the heads.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but based upon the location, I am going to say that it's the rear main seal. Are you gonna need a clutch anytime soon? It's a great excuse to do that seal.
As for the oil separator plate, I have never seen an early Ej22 with anything but a metal plate. The plastic plates are notorious for leaking, but the metal ones generally aren't a problem...

They switched to the crappy plastic plate sometime between 92-93, I think.
I know 91 had metal and my 93 had plastic.
The seperator plate is way more likely than the rear main.

is this on an SS/TW? you may want to check your turbo oil return line too.

I pulled my engine to do the Oil Seperator Plate (plastic 93). Pulled it expecting the rear man and saw that it was oooozing out of the plate. Back to Subaru I went. Rear main $11, Seperator Plate $16. Both in stock too, almost like they know these things....

Yeah the turbo motor has a plastic plate.....had I known the plastic plates were that bad, I wouldn't have put it on. My 90 had a metal one.
