Removing Residue from Stickers and Tape from Windows

My good old Legacy is used (to say the least) and has a few stickers and such all over it that I would like to remove from the glass, inside and out. I've never taken off such troublesome stickers before and I'm not sure where to start.

On the car are a school sticker on the rear windshield (outside), parking sticker on the rear driver's side window (outside), scotch tape on the front windshield (inside) and a freaking strip thermometer on the driver's side rear view mirror that's beginning to deteriorate and it somewhat gooey (it was probably made for the outside of a fish tank and was not meant to be weathered). There were two other stickers that actually pealed off, with a little fingernail work.

Now my question is of course how to remove these and what with. Is rubbing alcohol okay on the windows? Would a razor blade potentially scratch? What else is there to use? I just don't know, so my ears are open. Thank you!

Use goo gone or desolvit. It's a citrus based adhesive remover. It'll also remove wax, so you should rewax.

Rubbing alcohol is fine if you don't have Goo Gone handy.

Alright, the razor blade did well on all of them but rubbing alcohol only took care of the residue of the school sticker and scotch tape. I'll have to invest in another cleaning solution like you suggested.

Lighter fluid works great. Don't put it directly on the glass or it will run and just evaporate. Put it on a paper or cloth towel, then rub off the residue.

+1 for Goo Gone. Won't hurt paint

nail polish remover or even better the main active ingrediant, Acetone. also if its really old hit it with a heat gun to soften the glue. it will come off easier

Wonderful, I've got the easy ones off with rubbing alcohol and for the tougher ones I used a industrial citrus cleaner I found in my house, the car's looking a lot better already. Thank you.

I hope it's not too late to ask, but I've realized that the dealer badge on the trunk is coming off a bit and I'd like to remove it. The problem is that the type of glue they used is something I've never seen before (see picture links below, it's some strange foam like crap) and I'm worried that I might seriously be incapable of removing it. What do you think might work, and what should I stay away from so as not to screw up the car's paint?

Try googone

It's double sided tape. Acetone will take off anything, but goo gone is probably a nicer thing to use and may work as well.
