Hi I've been looking around this site and a lot of you really know your stuff. Anyway I have a 1990 Legacy LS AWD and I've run into a problem. Every time I pull up to a stop I keep feeling this clunk and I don't really know what it is. I thought it might be a misfiring, but when I put the transmition in neutral the clunk seems to go away. I watched the tach tonight and it drops when I feel the clunk. It doesn't happen at any consistency and I've noticed it when I'm going uphill and sometimes when I hit the accelerator hard. I can feel it when I come from a stop also. I was going to buy some new spark plugs (I have autolite plats in now) but I thought I'd ask here first. Please let me know what you think this problem might be due to.

I bought some ngk v powers this afternoon I'll change them out tonight. I just had the front left axle replaced, I thought that was the problem. It still needed replacement, but I was annoyed that this clunking thing was still going on.

Okay, for those that may not know it, don't buy autolite spark plugs for your subaru. I feel lucky my engine didn't blow up. All four plugs look burnt to hell, and one had somehow popped plug off. I'm surprised my car was running as well as it was. Anyway the problem's fixed for now (glad it only cost $8 and twenty minutes) thanks for you help.

I had autolights in my 81 volvo 240 turbo and they were so bad that they actually caused carbon tracking on the distributer cap all buy themselves in less than 6 months 5000miles!
