Dual range in a Legacy

So over in yonder parts of the globe one can get a Dual range Legacy. I'd love to have that setup, including all the associated interior trim bits. Anyone know where these were available the closest or easiest to obtain? Were they available in Canada? Would a Loyale/GL Dual range work in a 1st gen Legacy? Just curious...

I think EJ dual-ranges are available in Europe.
A EA dual-range will work, but you'll need an adaptor plate to mount it to your EJ engine.
Go to the
USMB for more info.

I went the other way, I put an EJ22 into my 88 wagon with the dual range. and it works great, i'm currently in the process of getting the parts to make it awd with a center diff lock, as it is a bit light on the front end in the rain in 2wd

Yes the dual range legacy-s are awailable in Europe. Hell i even have one.

I can get you the dual range tranny with all the needed interior trim parts. But the sending cost would probably be prety damn high.

australia got them too.
anyone know what the low range ratio is?
adapting an ea trans the adapter is easy to make yourself since there are holes that line up but the flyweel and clutch are a little harder to do. some guy on usmb sells a kit. personally I wouldnt do it, ea trans are junk and legacies are heavy with more power.

Wow, I've gotta argue with that one. Now, I'll agree that putting one behind the higher output Ej's in a heavier Legacy dosen't sound to wise (tho they seem to holding up pretty well for those who have done it). But in the original vehicle they are VERY durable, you cant hardly through a stone without hitting an EA 5MT car with 250,000+ miles and most still shift just fine. I have an '87 RX Turbo (Fulltime 4WD Dual Range with center diff lock) with 315, 000 miles and other than a slight coggy feeling on a hard down shift to second it shifts beautiful.
Just a note: Both the Ea & EJ 5MTs have the same layout, use about the same size gears and do use the same front diff section. Relative to the power output I'd say the Ea boxes are a bit over built.
