I've gone thru 2 new belts They jkust wear out this has happened in about 400 miles I'm trying a used belt that came with this engine. i'vechecked the alignment of pulleys look to be right on It seems that the alt is where its slipping . I wonder how tight you can make it? It doesn't make any noise just that you get hard steering and alt lite comes on.It wears it paper thin. The belt doesn't have much contact with the pulley but thats factory so it should be O.K.? The belts I used were Dayco maybe they just don't work on a Subaru. If anybody has had any same problems and know the answer Iwould appreciate the info. also i noticed the car was ideling 800 or 900 rpm and with the new belt it dropped to 500 rpm. Like the alt was drawing lots ofhorse power but the alt turns free and charges 13.5 volts Al Gotch

I'd do two things before getting too deep into it.

Remove the alternator and have it tested off the car.

Secondly, pickup some subaru belts, and see if you continue to have the same problem.

Alternator Power steering belt
