Stereo question for the audio guys

Not related to a subaru, but my mom's Chevy Tracker has bad engine noise through the stereo when it's on the AM band.

To me, big deal, just listen to CD's or FM, but she needs her talk radio (gotta love moms). I don't know what I could do to fix the problem, bad ground? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Stock stereo? Well, to start...

Find the wire that is ground and run it to its own spot on the firewall, not in the wire bundle - who knows where that goes before it actually grounds.

You might want to try a snap-on ferrite cores to supress RFI from the alternator and fuel pump wiring.

Yah, the stereo's the stocker. I'll work on tracing down the ground. The ferrite cores don't seem too expensive, if a ground doesn't help, I'll look into those.

a poor ground on the antenna itself can also cause this. it grounds through the mounting of itselt to the sheetmetal. You may need a special tool if you want to take it apart to check. I have a set of these from snapon but they are pricey. you can try vise grips but I'm sure that will bitch uo the nut. need more info pm me.
