On Sunday I picked up a new project car. 1990 L wagon, 5-speed AWD, 186k miles. It has about 10k on the clutch. Right now it needs a new muffler and a new wheel bearing, but it runs and drives mostly fine at the moment. I paid $500 for it. Thanks to Doug Vincent for pointing it out to me.

It's a little ugly right now but should be a lot of fun.

Nah, those are my kitties. They had to christen the new car. One of them climbed inside and walked on the cargo cover, and when she got halfway across it the latch slipped and it rolled up underneath her and dropped her on the floor of the trunk. It was pretty funny to watch.

The car is coming along nicely. I have fixed nearly all the problems. I installed a new axle/hub assembly which fixed the wheel bearings. I found a lightly used WRX muffler and got it welded on. It sounds great. I did a general tune-up, belts and air filter and spark plugs and oil change, etc. I bought new SS front seats but the driver's one is messed up, so for now I'm using the leather driver's seat from my sedan, but that is just temporary. I swapped the wheels over from my sedan last night also.

It still has two CEL codes now, 21 and 35, the coolant temp sensor and canister purge solenoid. I bought the temp sensor but can't figure out how to get the damn thing out because I can't fit a wrench down there.

I need to buy some new body panels for the front end, too, but other than cosmetic issues it's really comfortable and nice. Not half bad for $900 total expense.

Wow, that's the first time I see a leather seat outside Germany. Mine came from Germany, I din't know the sold them in the US

Do you have the whole interior? So seats, rearseat and doorpanels?


And, I think it's time to look at the e-brake. That's way to high!

The seat is from my LSI sedan. It has the full leather interior, yes, but it's for a sedan so the rear seats don't work in the wagon. I'm not planning on doing a full leather swap into the wagon at this point. I'm just using that seat temporarily because the SS seat I bought is messed up.

And yes, I know the e-brake is not in good shape, it badly needs adjusting. It's on the list of projects for someday.

Even with the extension I couldn't get it because there's a pipe in the way. I managed to break the plastic PCV joint trying to get a socket in there. I need to try again when I have a free day.

Did you drive to SD to get that car? How much you get it for?

I bought it locally. The guy I got it from had bought it two weeks before from someone from SD and never titled or registered it because he decided he didn't want that much of a project. I paid $500 cash for it. The running total at this point including work put into it is just barely under $900.
