ATF differences?

I just picked up a Legacy, Ill post pictures later when I take more, and I was checking the fluids and noticed it could use some power steering fluid. I saw that it took ATF fluid, and the manual said to use Dextron II fluid. I dont have any Dextron II fluid at my house, but I do have 13 quarts of Dextron III. Would it be safe to use the Dextron III or should I go buy some Dextron II?

A higher "number" Dexron is backwards compatible with all other Dexrons. In other words if you have Dexron III it will work as Dexron II. If you have Dexron IV you are pretty much covered for it all.
You just "can't" go the other way (Dexron II in a Dexron III device).

Ok, good, thats what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. I also relized I probably should have put this in suspension, but oh well. Thanks.
