well i'd like to start off by, saying thank you to Splinter for the insperation.
I've just finished installing and working the bugs out of my CarPc, I started with a 350Mhz comp with 393 MB RAM, and quickly realized that wasn't enough. so here's what i'm running now
PC
AMD 3500+ 2.2Ghz
MSI K9VGM-V Motherboard
Geil 512MB PC4200 DDR2-RAM
7" Lilliput Touchscreen
30GB HD
Audio
300 watt RMS 2 Channel MTX AMP - running 4 speakers
500 watt RMS D-Class MTX AMP - running 12" Sub
2 Front - 5 1/4" Sony Xplods
2 Back - 6 1/2" Sony Xplods
12" MTX Sub
I am currently using roadrunner as my front end and loving it, hoping to install GPS (iguidance) by the end of the year.
The start up time is 20sec the off time is even less.

tell me about that touch screen and all the controls? is that pc based or screen based? did you design the actual touch buttons for radio and such?

the touchscreen is hooked upto my computer through USB (for touch) and VGA(for picture) the the front end was created by someone else

You guys have it easy with the 7" screen. I wish I had gone that way, but it was too expensive. I had to hack apart half the dash to get mine in.
That looks nice from the front. Are you going to leave the case back there though? And is that Roadrunner you're using?

Doh. I just saw that you posted that at the beginning too.
I haven't tried that one, but it looks nice and simple. I started working on my own skin but never really finished it. The whole project has been sitting incomplete forever though.
Do you have a CD drive or any kind of input in the front?

this project started at the end of sept and i just now just everything up and work well, i'm playing on buying a DVD/CD slot drive player and installing it some where upfront. that will come after the GPS, and it'll have to wait till after christmas.
I am also looking into building a custom case, as the current one is masive.

Wow, I just went to look at the Blue Devil screenshots, that's really nice. I'm going to have to try that out.

It HAS to coincide with my powertrain build. The CarPC is becomming an integral part of vehicle operation

Ive got a major major project underway and it's quite hush hush

What are you using for a harddrive?
I killed a 3.5", 2.5" through vibration.
Im going to be trying an iPod drive next.

not to sure, its from probley about 1993-1994 its from a old comp, it's a 30GB runing at 7200 RPM

Yea, I got a USB GPS receiver. Didnt take anything special to get it working.
Dont ask me the brand, I got it second hand and theres no label on it

roadrunner is and open source software, so yes its free, you can buy a front end but theres really no point.
