I hate maintaining my car :(

I did brakes last weekend, and I am very happy. OE fronts until I can pilfer some WRX fronts, and Legacy Turbo vented rear's with good rotors and pads.
Did an oil change today. What do I find? Metal shavings. Tiny specs, large enough to feel when you rub your finger together. That's probably not good.
I also found nice brass bits in my trans fluid.
Looks like I'll have to rebuild my tranny and source an EJ25 bottom end relatively soon, or I'll have to expedite my plans before I have the cashflow to do it correctly.
I'm bummed.

That sux dude. I have yet to find shavings in my oil. I'm afraid to open my tranny up because of what you found, but it still has to get done, probably sometime this winter.
How many miles are on the forrester?

160k now. I've put about 20k on it.
It's lived a good life, and I really enjoy it. I'll still keep it, even if I have to replace the motor or something.

Don't temp him. He's been vowing not to go crazy on it.
Anyways, I'd let it go for now. I bet it's got a lot left in it.

I do not want a Turbo Forester. I'd need a hood scoop or a front mount. I don't want to cut the bumper or the hood.

don't you hate it when you know cars?
people that don't know any better are like "Look at the pretty sprinkles in my strange red fluid," and the rest of us are sitting here pissed because we know that once those rings go...say hello to my gear clashing friend!! well, not gear clash, but it won't hold right...you get the idea
