Performance All-Season Tire Recommendations

I am currently using Toyo Proxes 4 tires. They are great in the dry and wet but don't work very well when things get snowy (not that I expected them too). They are getting toward the end of their life and I am hoping to get a set of new tires before any snow hits here on the east coast. I have heard some good things about the Goodyear Triple Tread tires but since they are classified as all-seasons I am worried that they are compromising dry performance and responsiveness. So my question is what are some tires that are cheap (less then $120 each), great in dry and wet but will also get me around in mild winter conditions? I have been browsing Tirerack.com and have a few candidates but would like some first hand recommendations from fellow Legacy owners. Thanks for your time.

I just got new tires put on my OB and was in the same boat. I was looking for a good all-season that would handle the pavement, the mud and dirt, and the snow. My mechanic who used to deal in tires only, since before I was born, pushed me to get the new Yokohama Avid TRZ's. I was a little reluctant becaue they were $80 a piece which is more than I usually spend. However, I got them.... and good God, they're amazing. They ride super quiet and smooth and have a good solid feel. Stick great to the asphault and corner well, keeping in mind I'm running a 205/70/15, and do really well in the rain. They have a nice even breakaway with no surprises when you really push the corners and they come back quick and solid. In the dirt they've been great. Kinda kick up a few gravels but they definately grip. In the mud they just seem right at home. I was unable to get myself stuck in a big puddle I went and played in right after getting them. I have no questions that they'll do well in the snow as they've got a good tread and keep good grip in the cold weather, down to low 20's at times so far. They have a three pattern tread and are asymmetric and are garurenteed for 80k. I've run an assortment of all-season and snows, none of the really expensive ones -+100 a piece, and can say with all certainity that these are the best rubber I've run on.
In short, I highly recommend them and they at minimum require a good hard look.

my Yokohama YK420's (identical to above Avids) are great in the snow. I do have them "siped" but last winter, I was unable to even make the tires spin free in the snow all winter. They grabbed into snow and pushed the car big time.
