I was planning on lining up in front of my best buy for one at noon on thursday. I drove past today to find out that there was already a line forming. It started tuseday at about 2pm. Crazy game addicts!
I didn't even want it to play, I was gonna put it on ebay. Too expensive for my tastes. Also looks a little too much like a george foreman grill if you ask me. Anybody else?

psshh. I would never play that thing enough to get what I paid out of it. I could buy parts for my car with that money!

I've learned that buying equipment (cars, computers, consoles) as soon as they come out is just not worth it... the price will always come down, so if you buy it new you will always be losing money (unless you are good at nabbing them all up at retail price and gouging poor mofos on eBay while the demand is ridiculously high). Depreciation should work for you, not against you
On a side note, the Sony PS3 controllers apparently are not only wireless but also have accelerometers in them to allow controller pitch/yaw/roll to become three additional control axes. Freaking cool. Of course, all those people out there that are used to making wild gestures with the controller to get Mario to jump and duck will have a hell of a time getting used to this.
Just another way the PS series of OEM controllers provide the player with the most comfortable and natural feeling combined with the maximum number of control inputs. Dreamcast/XBOX style controllers are just unwieldy and bass-ackwards IMO. And yes I've spent plety of time on them trying to adapt. I prefer the PS2 controller every time, which is probably why I use it on my PC.

Well, I did a little more hunting today. 3 Walmarts, all with lines. Sams Club, with a line. Sears with a line, Best buy with a line, circuit city with a line. Just nuts! The best part is that sears says they are only getting 4 systems. there were 8 guys in line!

It'd be cool if someone actually bought one from a store to play it.

I saw this crap when they launched the 360, back when I still worked retail electronics.
I'm gonna wait until they get all the inevitable launch bugs out of the system and drop the price some.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
The two major advantages of PlayStations: Gran Turismo

and the best controllers.

We're hoping to get one for my son for Christmas, but I doubt its gonna happen tell after the new year (I've got a life and a job... no time to stand in line for days).
The GT series is the best video game EVER! And yes there is a new version (maybe just a HD version of GT4) coming out with the PS3.

theres no way GT stands up to xbox's Forza or nintendo's Mario Kart series, as far as racing sims go.
And ps controllers hurt my hands. The L2,R2 button hurt my fingers and squeezing those damn pressure sensitive 'shape' buttons make my hands ache when playing sims.
I really can't figure how PS stays on the market. Do they undership these things to generate publicity?

I heart my PS2. Can't wait for the price/hype to come down on the PS3.
Someome got hurt today trying to get one at K-Mart in Milwaukee. Poor SOB ran into a flag pole and had to go to the hospital. He'll spend the $500 on bills instead of a new console.

I'm at work and we all just watched in utter disbelief (sp?) as a PS3 went for $89,000,301.00 !!!!! It's probably fake but there was like 5 people in a bidding war for it. It kept just going up and up.

lmao seriously let them work out the bugs first, all these people lining up and spending $500 minimum for a PS3 can be summed up in two words: guinea pigs!!!
...Unpaid beta testers?

K no thats 3 words.
Scottzg you're just putting too much pressure on the pressure sensitive buttons.... it doesnt take much to max em out. I find myself doing that too during tough GT4 races and such but always catch myself and back off the grip, watching the handy pressure meter they give ya.
Pressure-sensitive buttons and D-pad > analog triggers (blech)

yeah 500 bucks for the core system= ridiculous. I actually prefer the xbox s controller, my thumbs are always slowly sliding off the PS2 sticks or they make my thumbs feel funny after a while, and the xbox controllers seem to fit my hands better.
Concave PS2/3 thumbsticks would be perfect though.

One is going for $9,000 on ebay. Search PS3 and all those people are making over double what they paid.

It was crazy. I hopped online at midnight to try and see if I could get one online. Impossible. toysrus.com was shut down, costco.com was shut down, even walmart.com. There were so many people trying to access these sites that sony basically created their own DOS attack. It was fun to watch. People getting hurt over a PS3 is rediculous. Some guys robbed a game store, some other people got shot while waiting in line, just nuts!

Actually it was a Wal-Mart where it happened. And there's talk of a lawsuit. Turns out the 19 year old dislocated/broke his jaw.

I will have to give you driving physics for Forza, but there's no way I'm giving you graphics.
Forza's graphics are so NFS 3
