man im so happy! my sister taught me how to drive a manual
im definatly not great and have alot of work left to do but i got all the basics down, now i just gotta make things a little smoother

it feels so awsome, it was actualy fun to drive, it was her 95' VW Jetta, it has like half the power of my car but that manual makes it so much quicker (felt like it anyway, doubt theres much of a real differance)

starting on a hill kinda stumped me though, wish i had mor practice on that, it took me about 4 tries before i realized it was in 3rd gear and i was almost to the bottom of the hill be then but i finaly got it goin

and aw man, even though i wasnt going to fast it just awsome when you accelerate hard and go through the gears

aba motor is not "half the power" of an ej22.

yeah, i know its not, that was an exageration
but its rated from the factory at 90HP

So it's a TDI then? If it's a TDI, it probably wasn't that hard to learn stick on then... probably didn't stall as easy with that torque.

Yeah, otherwise it's rated 115hp/122tq...15hp less than ej22e

oops, i was wrong, its about 115hp, its a GLS and i was looking at the K2 specs for the 1.8L because i kept thinking it was a 1.8 but i geuss its a 2.0L

worst handling car ive ever driven though, struts barely hold the car up, so it bounces for 5 minutes after hitting a bump (my dads getting her struts for christmas)

yeah i stalled it quite a bit the first time i took off, on the hill i kept making the mistake of puttin gthe clutch all the way in, it was taking to long to let it out, so i put the brake on full and let up on the clutch slowly and watched at what point the rpms started dropping so i would know how far i had to put it in

this was all done in a subdivision, im glad my dad didnt teach me, when he taught my sister he made her drive to the intersection of hwy 54 and stop (the intersection is a steep hill with a busy road) and take off again, she rolled into the car behind her

Good for you! Funny how a manual makes even the blandest of cars interesting to drive when you're learning.

But seriously, everything is funner(er) when you're driving stick

practice practice practice and you will get nice and smooth. Spend time learning how to start on a hill, I use the e brake method for that all the time. I was in seattle last week and THANK GOD for hill holder on the borrowed suby i was driving. Stick rules!

yeah my oldest sister is the only one in the family that doesnt know how to drive stick now
my mom tried to make my her learn... aw i remember that day... i hit my head on the front seat many a time, and some one pulled over and asked if we needed help, my sister got mad and just gave up

my younger sister (still much older than me) that taught me had to learn because my dad got her a 89' 5speed Saab 900 Turbo
i wish my Subaru was a manual, that or atleast had a fully working transmission so i could take it through the snow

hopefully my i can take my dads truck over there today, wont be as much fun though, he gets mad when i take off fast, but the truck needs a new clutch anyway

autos are still pretty fun in the snow.

Especially when you have to use the e brake to whip the rear end in line (your turning but not turning scenario), thats my favorite.

I also kind of learned how to drive a manual from my sister, reversing is still a bit..... tricky, but its good to know that if there is an emergency and the only car around is a stick, im not useless.

Here's a little tip I used when teaching a friend of mine to drive a manual car for the first time (his car, NOT mine! )

find yourself a dirt road with a hill on it. stop in the middle of the hill facing upwards. try to start moving again. lather. rinse. repeat.

the dirt will be way more forgiving than pavement and will allow you to learn the clutchfeel without worrying about rolling backwards into traffic somewhere.

I also learned to drive stick way before I learned how to drive auto.
