I wasnt sure if I should post this in the turbo or intake section.
My 94 turbo wagon is acting very strange all of a sudden for no apperant reason. i am not too confident with problems of this nature so i decited to turn to the experts. At around 3k rpm the motor sputters and backfires. it happens only above 5lbs of boost or pretty much when the turbo really starts spooling. The performance suffers and i have to keep off he petal to avoid a sputtering backfire type noise that makes me cringe. This forces me to drive at just a fast enough pace to keep up in traffic, but not be able to overtake someone or accelerate on the highway worth a damn.Ii have a few ideas but i wanted to see if im overlooking something obvious. I have a parts car so replacing the problem should be easy at least.

Have you checked the plugs?

carefully remove the MAF, spray with brake cleaner, reset the ECU.

I second checking the plugs/plug wires. If you've got crummy plugs the spark might be getting blown out with the introduction of positive manifold pressure.

hell yeah!!!!   :D you guys rock! I put in some new bosch platinum 4's and bingo! its better than ever now. this site never lets me down. It is so good to be able to drive the car normally again, the gas mileage will suffer but i can handle that. Now i can focus on getting a sticker on it

yeah, sorry to say but platinums are so-so at best, I would pick up some NGK v-power plugs.
