Any point in aftermarket uppipes?

Ok, so I read some threads about people who have installed aftermarket, catless uppipes on their legacy's and noticed a little increase of low end power anda "much welcomed exhaust sound".

The thing is, aren't our stock uppipes catless? What would be the point in getting a new one? The only difference could be pipe diameter right? And if you give it a bigger pipe its just going to slow down the velocity of the exhaust gases and actually slow spool up. Unless the uppipe is too small to begin with and switch to a bigger uppipe actually frees up the gasses a bit more.

Am I correct?

So basicallly, I would assume the only reason to purchase a new uppipe would be to get a larger pipe diameter to flow more exhaust gas. Which would only be effective if oyu also have nice headers and are making enough power to actually necessitate a larger exhaust system form the engine back.

You're pretty much right on the up pipe comments.

The main reason to get one is to flow more if you have the supporting mods to need it. If you're just running a stock turbo, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

Hell I'm still running the stock up-pipe....

Damn straight...well it turns out my dad bought 2 APS uppipes. (Those arent cheap!!!)

So I think once I get my 16G stuff together I'll toss on that uppipe as well.

I got an aftermarket uppipe because it had an EGT fitting in it already and it was relatively cheap :P
