Turbo options

Any good turbo options that wouldn't require engine managment?
I'm looking for as much of the good old HP that I can get before upgrading to a stand alone.
Currently I'm running the stock ECU and the VF11. I plan on dumping in the FMIC at the same time I find a turbo option (if there is one).

ps- my brother in law has a Garrett Disco-Potato(GT28RS I think) and I bet he'd part with it for the right price.

All of those mentioned would really require engine management if you were to go above 12 or so psi.
So...for a good drop in, I would recommend a VF10 at 14 psi to give you nice power and not over-extend your MAF.
Plus you can get them pretty cheaply

I'm having trouble finding info on the VF10. How does it compare to the VF11?

the vf10 pretty much the same as a vf11 just a different compressor housing.
Any new turbo will require modification, none will be a "drop-in" installation.
No offense to Nick, but a vf10 isn't a "drop-in", and in my opinion is kind of pointless seeing how the vf11 and vf10 are soooo similar. You'd have to fabricate/find an adapter to connect the turbo outlet to the throttle body inlet. More prefferably you could get some sort of intercooler. and just fabricate a turbo outlet to intercooler inlet pipe.
It all depends on how much you want to spend. You can find a vf30 for ~$400 but it will require some work to make fit properly but be MUCH better in the long run even when you go to a standalone EMS.
Your question is simple but the answer isnt so simple. There are lots of variables and a lot depend on what you want to spend/get out of your car,

I have in the Legacy a JDM td05/16G
You have to do an intercooler with it, and a 3 inch exhaust.
But I only run wastegate boost (9lbs) and the injectors and MAF are ok with it.
Plenty of power.
My next step will be piggyback with this turbo/ bigger injectors / bigger intercooler/ and going to 18 to 20 psi.
Going for around 250 at the wheels.

Well...I mean't "drop in" as you don't have to do any crazy intake mods as you would with a VF34...
If anyone upgrades the turbo they need to intercool anyway, so I just assumed that...
And...if you have ever held a VF11 and a VF10 side by side you will see a big difference...trust me

There is no point in arguing though. Let me put it this way, if you want to keep the very quick "spool" characteristics of the VF11, but still be able to install an intercooler fairly easy, then the VF10 is the turbo you want. I think ~12psi intercooled w/ a MBC would be pretty fun.

Got a pic of an 8 and a 10 side by side by chance?
I agree with the fun part of getting to 12psi on one of those. It doesn't last long before it decides to drop back down to 9 which ruins the fun.

250 whp is the goal for the near future. How much will the VF11 and VF10 support?
The only reason I am shying away from EM right now is that the nearest shop I have found is nearly 200 miles away.
Another thing I have been wondering about...how much WHP is a stock VF11 generally good for with an intercooler, Stand alone, and MBC. I would assume that Injectors, fuel pump, and exhaust would all be desirable for this.

250 whp without EM? Forget it.
250 whp is at least 15 psi, with 550 injectors. With intercooler.

I'm sorry. I didn't really explain well enough. I would like to get as far as I can to my goal of 250 whp without EM. Eventually (probably late July) I will be getting EM. But for the near future I would like to run as much as I can. Just wondering if a VF10 or my VF11 will support 250 WHP after it is properly tuned.

I honestly doubt you could make 250whp with a VF10 unless you had some awesome flowing heads and more displacement.
Now...VF8...I think so

I have been looking for one good place to go to see all of the IHI turbo information. Anyone got a link to the data sheets? I have found plenty of Garrett sites that have all of the charts. Kinda looking for the same thing for IHI. I have found a few of them..but none of them have all of the IHI turbo types listed.

So you want to reach 250WHP with STANDALONE? Or without any engine management at all; I.E. no aftermarket boost control, fuel control, timing control, FCD's etc...??????

Part 1: This means if I top out at 170 WHP without a standalone I'm fine with that. Just want as much as I can get for now.
Part 2: I'm wondering if I should dump a turbo in before engine management (i.e. the VF10) because I was wondering if a VF10 would support 250 WHP.
All in all I think my best bet is going to be to stick with the VF11 for now. Dump in a IC, use my existing MBC, a nice exhaust, and get a nice EM standalone. Later on I can get better fuel delivery, flow the heads, and get the big bad ass turbo.
Anyone else got a opinion of a better route?

Your horsepower rating all depends on the type of dyno you use. So 250whp on a Mustang Dyno might be 270whp on a Dyno-Jet which might be 230whp on a dynapack or something else.
In my opinion, I don't think you will even get 170whp with a vf10, inter cooler and MBC, and exhaust. Those mods don't really necessitate a Stand Alone engine management system anyways. If you want more power without EM then get something that is actually going to flow more air than your stock turbo without upping the boost. Like a TD05-16g.
The TD05-16g will flow gobs more air. But it will also push your fuel system to its limits if you up the boost too much. there is no simple answer really, because if you want 170-200whp you are opening up a whole can of beans in which a bigger fuelpump, injectors, better boost control, fuel control etc...
A vf10/intercooler/mbc/exhaust will give you come decent gains but I doubt it would put you up around 170whp.
