Well I just sold my motorcycle to someone in Calgary. Even though the guy took care of everything, there were some things that I had to take care of. You need to have the owner of the car fax copies of the title, and a form he needs to fill out. There is a 72 hour waiting period from when the paperwork gets to the border until you can bring the car across.
I'm sure there are a few more loops to go through for a car, but that should get you started. Just call the border and see what you need to do and have. Hope it helps.

There is also a rule that Canada has about the age of imports. I know to bring a car from a foreign market such as Japan the vehicle has to be 15 years old from the month of production. I am not sure if the relationship between Canada and the US makes this rule act out differently or not. If you are buying 1992 or newer you may want to confirm this as well...
