This is what i want to do, but with a unit made for this application, not a computer like this guy used. Not looking for much GPS later i wouldn't mind adding it, but having a touch screen monitor that can play dvd's and mp3's and radio :D would be cool, i am also looking for better quality speakers, now im debating if i should try upgrading ths speakers for now with the OEM radio and see how they sound, then get the new head unit, or just get the head unit and notice a difference with stock speakers, what do you think?

EDIT: Im loooking for the pic i saw with the screen that uses the bottom storage and radio.

You're not going to find anything that fits in there just from the box. Splinter did all that custom fab work, and put a lot of time and effort into it.

Yes, thats who did it, he did a pretty good job, but it going to be pricey, just priced it out now.

How much of a difference you think there will be if i upgrade all 4 speakers and use the OEM head unit?

Actually Mp3car.com makes a bolt-in bezel for the WRX, Im pretty sure it'd fit in our cars too, since WRX CD changers fit in our cars. Its not cheap though.

YES exactly what i was looking for, the picture and the link to the WRX piece, i saw that and couldn't find it again, i wonder how that WRX piece would look? WOuld it sit around the trim?

But your setup looks pretty good, i just wanted a more simple approach without a computer. Just a head unit with everything built in, but maybe i can just get a small head unit i attach to the touchscreen.

Here's another version:

But if you're looking for a prebuilt unit that doesn't need custom work, there are a lot of standard 2DIN setups out there and you could just get a dash installation kit from your local stereo store.

Splinter... that setup is awesome! Is it touch screen? Do you have links to the display and maybe other pictures of your project? I have a Dell laying around that is pretty slim, has built on video, sound, lan so i just gotta hide a motherboard, powersupply & hard drive... a setup like that would be perfect!
