Just wanted to say hi. I'm semi new to the legacy thing but have been rocking the old school stuff for a while now. Loyales, GLs stuff like that. I did have a 90 awd 5 speed lsi at one point and the moment it left my driveway after selling it i have been regretting it ever since and had been on the hunt for one again. Well that day came when a friend of mine decided to sell his awd 93 sedan. He had to swap to a auto (all be it a 93 awd) for the commute to school and back. Even thought it's got a totaled title it's all there and runs great. The total title was due to some bone head clipping his front bumper, fender and the insurance company said it was going to be more then car was worth so they would total it out.

So anyways the car now sits in my driveway awaiting some play time that I have to offer.

So in doing that, I had a question about the wrx brakes. Yes I know they fit, yes I know i have to have everything, brakes, calipers, rotors, wheels. But the only thing i could never find with searching was what years. Is it any year wrx that will fit on my legacy?

Also as far as I can tell from reading the rear brakes that are on the legacy are bigger then the ones on the wrx. 10.5 legacy vs 10.3 wrx. If that's true I don't see much of a reason to upgrade the rear other then to say that you have all wrx brakes. Or am I missing something.

Any year WRX brakes will work.

The rears have the same effective radius, so don't concern yourself with the actual rotor size. The reason for a WRX rear swap is to open up rear brake pad options.

cool thats what i wanted to know.

so if i did want to swap the rear to the wrx, it's just the same stuff that i would need. the caliper, rotor.

so what if i wanted to go to the vented turbo rear brakes. probably the same stuff, caliper, rotor.

the rear piston is also bigger, which will help even out the bias if you throw on bigger rotors and two-piston calipers up front. Only turbos and wagons have the same size piston, which makes the turbo brakes a better upgrade than wrx rears.

Good catch. I was thinking he had turbo rears.

I swapped to Turbo Legacy rears on my 98 Forester. Vented rear brakes ftw.

I have a set of calipers and brackets from my Forester if you want them. Somewhat cheap, and it's an upgrade for you. The piston is larger than the non-turbo Legacy rears, and they use the same rear rotors as a WRX (from what it looks like).

so it seems the best combo is wrx front and legacy turbo rear. Hmmm good to know. i guess I will keep my eyes out for that stuff. oh also your forester rear disc call for a different pad then then the wrx so i would guess it wouldn't be the same.

The piston size and rotor diameter are the same, but the bracket and caliper are slightly different so the tabs on the pads are different. It affects which pads you can buy (there are more choices for the wrx), but given the same pads there wouldn't really be any difference between his rear forester brakes and 02-05 wrx brakes.
