okay so my ABS light is on and i know nothing about the system . it does apear to have bleedrer screws on top of the ABS unit. the ABS is not working as the car will lock up... Im jsut curious. if there is a simple fix to this or if all my sensors are gone or somthing. if its sensors I may try to remove the unit and then take the ABS bulb out

i had the same problem, turns out that it was a wheels sensor...so i pulled the fuse. no more ABS = no more worries.
i would recommend pulling the fuse at least until you get the system fixed. my system would do strange things and i wouldn't have full stopping strength after the wheel sensor error messed with the ABS.

There's not much point in pulling the fuse if the ABS system malfunctions. Once there is a detected ABS problem, the entire system deactivates. This holds true for all cars.
Greg, you probably just need a wheel sensor. Use Josh's scan and try to diagnose it. You can find out which sensor is bad.

every time my wheel sensor triggered the error, i would feel a slight pulse and then my brake strength was less. i thought like you, that the system should just shut down, but it affected performance IMO.

I repeat: If the ABS light is on, the system deactivates. It is either fully functional, or not functional at all.

Unless the relay in the pump unit itself fails, which fails open and the pump will run even with the car off! This is what happened to my car and according to the people at CCR it is a very common problem with the ABS on the old Leggies. It's just a relay replacement away from being fixed though.
So, any of you having ABS problems, turn your car off, take out the key and go listen to the ABS pump. If it's whirring away, it's the relay that needs to be replaced. I figured mine out pretty quickly, so I don't know if this would completely discharge the battery if it ran overnight or not. I am guessing not, but wouldn't help to pull the fuse until you get the relay replaced. That's what I did...

Coincidence that you say this Matt. My ABS on my new SS is intermittently coming on and off. When it occurs I get out and sure enough, the pump's running full steam. I've been just disconnecting the neg. battery and letting it reset itself.
Long story short - do you have the P/N for the relay? Or will NAPA have a replacement if I give them the bum one?
Thanks, and sorry for the hi-jack.

My ABS did the same thing. I had broken the wires to one of the sensors, and my ABS didn't completely disable.
Just a note - on my friend's Audi, we pulled the ABS fuse and the car wouldn't start without it.

on my 95 wagon the abs light will come on occasionally and the abs will not work.
however, all i have done is turn the car off and then start it up again and the light is off and the ABS is fine.
this has happened maybe 10 times in the last 4-5 years.

i notice while driving my car that the abs light would be off and then come on. my pedal sometimes while braking goes in a little bit. this scares the crap out of me as im not applying anymore force. how do i do the self diagnosis posted? is this like the check engine diagnosis?
