Separating a Turbo 5spd tranny from an EJ20

I just recieved a JDM ej20/5spd tranny, & ran into problems I never before experianced while trying to seperate the tranny from the motor.
On N/A Subaru tranny's I have removed all bellhousing bolts & just fought to seperate the engine from the tranny (stubborn/bonded together). Once I managed to get a gap between the parts they basically fell apart.
On the turbo tranny the through-out bearing seems to be attached to the pressure-plate & will not allow the tranny to completely seperate from the motor.
I removed the tranny by removing all of the pressure-plate to flywheel bolts, but I know there is a better (correct) way to do this, the question is how?
