The next picture shows the effectiveness of a lesson learned from the Westie - the zip ties on the CV boot. There is no sign of rubbing despite the boot being only 1/4" from the suspension arm and having run at 122 mph. On the Westie the boots had 'inflated' at speed and hit suspension parts, promptly tearing themselves and spraying grease everywhere. Also note paint marks and safety wire on the bolts - another lesson learned.

does anyone think that this could help with the exploding boots we experience? I know we're not rubbing suspension parts, but if the boots are inflating and have goobers of grease stuck to one side of the boot, i could see how that could shorten life.

I'm gonna try it. In 8 years we'll know if it helped.

that will likely tear the boot prematurely, like when you get a rock or pebble or grass blade stuck in between and it rubs through, or just the normal friction and rubbing/pinching, will cut the boot. GOOD LUCK.

Yup....I would NOT do that....when you turn, the zip tie is going to puncture the boot. That may work on the rear boots....but I still wouldn't do it....you've got up & down suspension travel.

Using an o-ring or something like that would be the preferred way to keep the boot from expanding.

all of my boots have o-rings on them, do new axles not have rings on them? o_o
