+1 for the sleeper look

I got off easy tonight. On my way home from work just about midnight I pulled a big feint drift through the roomy intersection onto my street. I know its risky to drive like that in the city but it has been snowing for 3 days and I couldn't resist. There was no traffic from any of the three oncoming directions but the ONE car that was 50 yards behind me was a ghost SUV. I can usually spot a ghost car immediately but not this one, not tonight.
It was a short conversation. I had my ID and papers ready for him. He mentioned that the fine for having the wrong address (I moved last year) on my license was $120 and the fine for "going too fast when the conditions suck" is $402. I agreed I was going "too fast" and he told me to carry on and shape up.
I realised right away that he figured I lost control and I didn't feel like arguing with him. My pride isn't worth $500 right now. But not until I was talking to my room-mate did I realise that the super low profile Legacy is what got me off the hook. If I had done that in an STi he would have thrown a stunting ticket my way I am sure. Luckily my big blue mudflaps were still filthy from auto-cross so they kinda blend in to the winestone paint at night. Even though I have CES exhaust, the muffler is really plain looking, and the low rumbly idle might sound like an "old car" to someone who doesn't know.
Anyway, I was unlucky that he saw me but super lucky that he was feeling leniant. I think the appearance of my car made the difference though. I know better than to do that with cars around but it's nice to be reminded verbally and not financially.

I was told by a cop "If your going to fuck around in the snow, find a bigger parking lot... that isn't visible from the street".

Cops aren't stupid. They know you want to have fun in the snow. Only sometimes will you get a ticket for it.

Stealth FTW!
This is part of the appeal of the Legacy if you ask me.

People don't expect much from you and you can easily surprise them.

And like you pointed out, it is not a flashy car, so you get out of tickets that an STI driver would not.

Sleepers are always fun. Very underrated.

It's funny because if you tell someone you have a Legacy, it doesn't conjure up much excitement. I haven't met a single person outside these boards that knows the US even got a turbo legacy. Tell the same people you have a WRX, and they're instantly interested.

I'd take my Legacy anyways. Still turbo, still AWD, still fun. Cops, Punks, and the Insurance Company aren't the wiser.

My old twgn in Winestone Red has a few paint scratches from the bush, the hopeless original roof rack is gone but the rubber rails have been left on in case I drop a canoe on the roof.

The ride height is a little higher than stock and it has two ss exhaust pipes sticking out the back that have been painted matt black. The third pipe which by- passes the silencer doesn't show. No street-racer fart-cans for this discrete machine.

With the electric cut-out the sound is somewhat loud or quiet.

Won't be getting ticket for a flashy shape, noise, or colour. :-)

Only when I really deserve one, I guess. :(

Doesn't work as well around here as it used to since these cars are too old, but it was great when I first got the car. Now the Mazda slips through. Dark colors are always a good idea, too.

Yeah...and I love the looks on WRX owner's faces when my Legacy kicks their car's ass from a stoplight or on the freeway :D

Being stock and automatic I am still not quite there yet.

I feel that too. Right now I am faster than most only because of my AWD and snow tires when most people have all seasons and FWD. Clowns.
In a city with streets like this I don't see how they live with themselves :-D but I still have some work to do to beat Imprezas.... :(

2+ for Subtle. His car looks and sounds 95% (ride hight, rev scoop and a stucked FMIC) stock from a glanc. His car going up hill goes as fast as my car down... ... even has sound reduction spray under the hood 8)
