TD04 on EJ20G's

Did the EJ20G used on the manual WRX wagon have the same TD04 used on the auto. WRX sedan of the same year(s)?
Looking at Freestyle's turbo chart there are 4 td04's, 1 of which (09b from 3000gt twin turbo) I'm pretty sure I used on a past project (turbo 1.6l sentra). The three others look like WRX turbos...

Most EJ20G's did not come with TD04's
If you mean the USDM EJ205 (WRX 2002-2005) They used the TD04-13g
EJ20G's came with either VF10, VF8, or TD05-16g, or the 90 degree TD04 in few cases

555BCTURBO, I have also seen an ej20g from a 5 speed wagon(GF8) with the 90* inlet td04, so the statement about them coming on just auto-wagons is wrong.
My question was what version TD04(90*) is on the 5speed wagons(13t, 15G)? &
Was this was the same turbo (90*td04) used on the auto ej20g sedans?
The td04 (09B) I used on the turbo sentra project was made to fit on a custom exhaust manifold so everything used on the car had to be fabricated, but since your on the mitsu subject here's some interesting info.
Having had a diamond star car in the past (galant VR4), I can confirm what everyone already knows the Mitsu td05 has a different exhaust flange than the subaru td05's.
Currently owning both versions (mitsu/subaru) of the tdo5 i can also confirm that if you remove the v-band clamp (1 x 10mm lockbolt) the mitsu td05 (compressor/cartridge/turbine) will fit into the subaru exhaust housing PERFECTLY, giving you a cheap bolt-on TD05 - provided you find a subaru e-housing.
I tried this with a td05-14b turbo left over from my galant (spare), but these also come on first gen 5spd eclipse's, flow about 405cfm & when used on a mitsu 4g63 would push 25psi up to about 4-4500 rpm's tapering to 18psi @ 7500rpms, & generally sell for about $75-$100.
I believe this little turbo could push the 3500lb (with average weight driver) Galant VR4 to mid-high 12 second quarter mile times, I never tracked mine so I cannot say exactly how fast , but Bushur racing & road race engineering have performance documented in their sites - on a 5500rpm launch my friends would tell me my rear bumper was scraping the ground but this was not true (it was just my muffler).

If we could find a source for cheap subaru TD05 exhaust housing we'd be in business!
Thanks for the td04 info!

Just to confirm that the TD04 was slapped on the WRX regardless of transmission, well I've just come back from the wrecker who had a shelf full of them. I actually asked him if the MY97 WRX had the TD04 or TD05 and his response was "They all have the TD04 mate."
BTW, I am now the proud and happy owner of a VF-8!

If you go the the MRT forums and read up on their turbo section, they do a pretty good job of explaining which turbos wenton which subarus.
Most of the GF8's had the Td04. A few of the STI ones had Vf series turbos. Most likely Vf-24's
And if you needed a Used TD05- for cheap- you should have contacted me a week ago.

And thus why the wrecker told him they all had them, mate! To further clarify the 90 degree TDO4 usage, it was used on a lot export market Ej20G's that were NOT STi's. Didn't matter if it was manual, or auto, or wagon or sedan. If it was shipped to the UK, or mainland Europe and it was a 93-96 WRX, it likely had a TD04 on it. It was ONLY the JDM manual transmission sedans and STi's AND the export STi's that got the TD05 turbo for sure. I have seen mention that many of the Australian cars got the TD05's on them, but I can't verify for sure which ones did and which ones didn't. I would guess it used the same logic as the JDM cars with it being on MT sedans and STi varians.
I am currently running a 90 degree TD04 on my 91 SS along with a slanty intercooler. Mine is off of a JDM 1994 auto tranny EJ20G. It's a nice set up. Because the condition of my oil pump is currently questionable, I haven't gone above stock boost on it, but it's nice and snappy as it is.
I would be interested if someone did come up with the trim specs on this turbo versus the modern 13T WRX TD04. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was different than what they use now...

New Zealand. Clean, green and doesn't give a fuck about vehicle emissions. Actually the wrecker recommended I get a TD04 instead of the VF-8. But there was a $100 difference and I couldn't justify paying more for a smaller turbo.
Power is good with the 8 though.

if nobody has mentioned this yet, I believe it's not the tdo4 13G but a tdo4 13t

Quick question>>>
Ummm I just spent like a year installing a td04, and I've had a vf-8 chilling the entire time... which one will make more power?

It took you a year to put a TD04 in?
VF-8 hands down.

Agreed. Diz( who doesn't post much anymore) put a vf-8 and slanty cooler on his SS. I got the chance to compare both cars on stock boost here in Colorado. His car was definitely making more peak power than my car, but mine spools sooner.
And if you are talking about adding a boost controller and tweaking it, the Vf8 has a lot more head room. It's really similar in characteristics to the TD05-16g...

hmmmm, I see a new turbo swap in my future, but I'll wait till I hook up my safc2 and figure in some sort of boost control other than wastegate boost.
