Wipers arm or motor noise, play and hitting the trim

This is something I've been waiting to fix for long time but now is the time.
The wipers on my 94 L have this 60s car clakety clang noise at any speed
They hit the outside windshield trim and the bottom too and thet have a lot of play when I move them.
Is the play in the motor or it is in the arm? Should I replace the motor or the arm? New or used?
Thanks in advance.

hmm, sounds like you need a new wiper assembly. Mine had the same issue, because the bushings were bad, but you could try to set the wiper arms so they sit lower, if that doesn't work then ya, you need a new wiper arm assembly. I went to my dealer, they installed it for $200 and they ordered the one for the wrong model SO then they gave me a brand new 2006 forester, and drove that for 1 month, i was pretty happy, $200 sure can take you far :D

I already moved them down. That's how I noticed the play they have.
Do you have the part number for the arm?

Thanks for you effort. I will try to find it myself and see if anyone from the forum post it.

I didn't see the wiper assy, but I found the wiper motor and wiper transmission.

It's under mechanical>electrical>chassis electrical>wipers

Thanks I looked there but is a downer that there is no image like in other sites where you can see if that is the part you are looking for.

Shoot me a pm to remind me to look in my book.

I'm in the process of trying to get the entire parts book I have into electronic format. Once that happens, it'll be a nice resource to have.

I heard it isn't very difficult to do it yourself. Arms should cost something like 50 dollar I believe.
But that's here in Holland. Most of the time you are cheaper (much)
