one major obstacle to just putting a wrx motor in... the cam sensors are not compatible with the stock engine management.

Difficulty is directly related to the year of WRX engine you choose. 1st gen WRX engines are a really easy swap. Any of the later ones, (97+) are essentially a rewire of the car...

doing one right now (non-SS) But RHD mailcar. Mines a 94 with a 03 WRX engine with an 01 legacy trans.
The wiring is the bigest problem. everything bolts into place. But you have to use WRX front k-member and the lower control arms.
The wiring is killer, I have a degree in auto tech, and its kicking my ass.
Getting detailed diagrams and taking the time to trace each wire is the hardest thing to find, ive probably got 72hours of actually sitting on my ass and working on it and im only about 70% done.
