Legacy's FIA Endurance Race info. I had no idea!!!

I was looking up chassis codes and found this very interesting bit of information!! Does anyone have any more info or video clips?

The original Legacy speed record was set between January 2nd and 21st, 1989, with a Japanese-spec turbocharged RS sedan at the Arizona Test Center outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

It broke the 100,000 km FIA World Land Endurance Record by maintaining an average speed of 138.780 mph (223.345 km/h) for 447 hours, 44 minutes and 9.887 seconds, or 18 1/2 days. Pit stops were made every two hours with a driver change and refueling, while tire changes were made at 96 hour intervals, or every 13,400 miles driven.

This gave me an idea for a poll... I hope this is a correct post...

My personal Record is 1276.12 miles. From Springfield Missouri to Tucson Arizona. I started at 12:00AM Central and finished the same day at 7:30pm Mountain Time. I felt soooo bad afterwards.. lol

Los Angeles to Milwaukee, but we stopped a couple times, including a little R & R in Boulder.

I did a huge road rally last may that was 12 hours and started at 7 pm. Over the course of 24 hours I didn't sleep and drove about 800 miles.

Also I've done the one way 1250 mile trip from LA to Montana (and back) 7 times.

I like driving and taking trips in a car. Probably from all the time I spent in the back of a minivan as a kid. My flight home for Christmas this year was canceled thanks to the snowstorm in Colorado so I drove home. It was fun and I stopped in SLC on the way back to ski with a friend.

yeah, I was supposed to fly from Kansas City to Denver then on to Tucson... But the snow stopped me in KC. I ended up catching a flight just by chance to Phoenix... I was just about to split a rental car fee to drive to Tucson.. hehe that would have been tiring, but fun.

Baltimore, MD to Davenport, IA on one day, and Davenport to Salt Lake City, UT on the second. I was with my dad, though. On the second day we drove from 7:30 am to 12:30am that night, not even stopping for dinner.

Orlando, FL to Beverly, MA. Detroit, MI to Laramie, WI. Also drove from Los Angeles, CA to Beverly, MA in under 50 hours, but stopped a couple times to sleep for a total of 4.5 hours. Otherwise that would be about 3500 miles.

Kamloops, B. C. to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left at 5 am on a nice Summer day , and arrived 17 hours later.

The road then was mainly two- lane and the 400 miles to Calgary through the Rocky Mountains was done in 5 hours for an 80 mph average, including stops.
The other number I recall was the total elapsed time of 17 hours for over 1200 miles for an average of 76 mph, on elapsed time including all stops.

No tickets :-D

Kutztown, PA to Lake Stevens, Wa in 2-1/2 days (3000 miles). Driving time, including stops for gas & food was 50 hours. Total trip time was 60 hours, 5 hrs of sleep each night.

The longest portion I did was Wisconson on I-90 to just outside of Billings, MT in probably 18 hours or so. That leg was like 1100 miles.

Nonstop (almost) from Hickory, NC to Seattle, WA...

It was me, Yukonart and Jake15 last summer...we did stop in Fort Collins, Colorado for a few hours, but other than that, the 94 GT was running at 3000+ rpm for pretty much 2.5 days

Nick, was this 94 GT a purchase where a money order was sent to the dealer and then picked up and around late May/early June? I ask because I was looking at a 94 GT wagon down in NC as a replacement for my 93' around that time and when I called the dealer back to make arrangements to come down and see/buy it he informed me some guy from the west had sent him money for it and bought it sight unseen. Blew his mind, and bummed me out a little. I figured it was someone on the BBS but wasn't sure who.

4650+ miles in 5.5 days. details: spring break from Cedar Falls Iowa, to the Grand Canyon, then back, coming through New Orleans, Memphis..........was in my former CRX Si, got 38.5 mpg avg, at avg speeds about 80mph (about 4400-4800 rpm 5 days straight). Day one stopped in Peublo area, day 2 stop near Albequerque, then was at Grand canyon that 2nd day basically...to see the sun setting on the canyon.

camp pendleton (between san diego and l.a.) to tacoma (and back) numerous times. just over 1300 miles. ~20hr traffic depending.
my best time was just over 18hrs.

it was in my camaro which had a 2.73 final drive ratio and a t5 swap resulting in 1800rpm @80mph. great cruiser. not so hot off the line.

Chicago to Hermiston Oregon in 34 hours, 12 hours driving, 4 hours asleep in a rest stop, 17 hours driving. I was so awake at the end I needed 4 beers to calm down and sleep. I would have driven the 2.5 more hours to my hours in Portland but this was in 1990 and I still used my moms house for laundry! :)

I can't wait to go on another long trip. I want to see how much better these energy drinks keep me going than the old standby of Mountain Dew.

by beatersubi
standby? the dew was the only thing that kept me awake. and when that didn't work so well, i'd add a little red bull. thus making...a mountain bull.

I'm not sure they even had Red Bull here when I drove cross country. Dew was the highest caffeine soda I could drink (couldn't drink Jolt).
