Well, I personally wouldnt mind a gm engine if it were a nice lt1/ls1/ls6/ls2....
Hell, even the gm 4.3 liter v6 is a nice motor.

GM motors blow
I would give my left nut for a British built Atom 300, with the Supercharged Honda motor...

yeah i am going to have to stick with the 2.2 and say a 22b for dream car. That, or a P2 (even though they never made it to production i'd take the test car), orrrr a bugatti veyron

+1 on the boxer engine. They have scads of kits to adapt our motor to a sandrail so I would not think it too overly difficult to put the engine in the atom frame. Having said that, the SC Honda engine does sound badass on that car. Whatever the engine, I JUST WANT ONE!!!:)

I think that in our lifetime we will witness the adoption of very strict rules concerning emissions and fuel consumption on street legal engines. The atom may be the future of compact performance as we adapt to new regulations. There are a group of F1 engineers who are currently custom building electric cars that will put down nearly as much horse power (though a touch less torque) on a very similar "driver only" cockpit design. A full charge is acquired in about 3 hours and it recharges as it runs to give you 8 hours drive time at moderate speeds. Ill look for the info and link it.
