I bought a whole car from a junkyard with no title. How do I get one for it?? It is an 83 Rx7.

If you take down the VIN number and go to a notary, they'll be able to help you.

I went to the DMV, they basically told me to get *ucked. That a junk yard isn't supposted to sell whole cars. I need to come up with a better story or something.

I am in Iraq right now... So phone time is a BIT limited. Just wanted to get it taken care of when I get home. /rant

My brother bought a Jeep off of Ebay without a title. What ended up happening was we contacted a title service out of Maine, since apparently their title laws are really lax, and after filling out paperwork and like $350 bucks, we had a Maine title and plates. After a year, we can transfer them to Ohio plates (since that's where we live).

I think they asked for a bill of sale/receipt, insurance card, and a pic of a drivers license. It took about 6 weeks.

the titling process in CO works like this, possibly is at least similar to your state:
1)fill out a request for title information form through the DMV citing "research" as your reason for the request(for some legality purpose the DMV would not tell me what reason to list)
2)it shows up clean(if you are lucky and its not salvage or reported stolen)
3) get a local bonding agency to bond the title for the value of the vehicle(you pay them 10% of whatever they are bonding usually) they give you a certificate of bond
4) have the vehicle inspected by the highway patrol and they sign off on it
5) insure it
6)now you can get a title from the DMV for $10 fee or so

long story short if you are willing to jump through the DMV's hoops to save a few bucks do so. if not, do like previously mentioned and go through a title service. HOWEVER. you would be nuts not to do #1 with the DMV first, citing research to clear you of any relation to a stolen vehicle.
always tell the DMV the least possible info that you have to about what you are trying to do, or dumb it down(I'm trying to restore my late grampa's truck) or something like that.
there are many title services out there, mainly in maine, delaware, new hampshire, and nevada due I guess to the lax titling laws there(NV has some of the slackest laws of any state on many things especially vehicle).

my rhd civic sir didnt have title, or regist, so i bought a car same year and color, with title, and vin swapped.

I think the OP was probably looking for a legal way of getting a title for the vehicle....

I've actually still got the info (thanks to google desktop).

In one of the emails they sent us, the requirements were:

We need a bill of sale with the seller's name and physical address
and your name and address. We also need a copy of your actual insurance card
with the Jeep's VIN on it.

I think though, that if your paperwork is rejected by the state (which is a possibility, this is government we're talking about) they keep a "service fee" I don't know how much that is though.

Personally, I was a little skeptical at first, but we got a title in our name, so it worked out in the end. Another thing I would try is checking out the MN DMV website. They might have a FAQ section or tell you how to get a title off of a bill of sale.
