What would you do?

I recently got a new job and one of the perks is I get a company car. I've been trying to get them to get me an '07 Legacy but my boss went to the local suby lot and he didn't like the head room in the Legacy because of the sunroof! :( So, he said I would have to get an '07 Outback.

They currently have me in an '06 Chevy Trailblazer and I can either keep it for a year or two and then get something new or take a brand new '07 Outback now.

I'm leaning towards taking the Outback but I'm really bummed because I don't much like the styling on them and I LOVE the regular Legacy. Real bummer. :(

What would you do?

See if they can get a black Outback. The monochrome paint scheme makes them look MUCH better.

I think you can order them all monochrome, can't you? What does that guy care about the headroom for if it's your car? Tell him resale will be much higher than that Chevy.

Red is at least one more option for monochrome.

I say you take the outback now and just try and get a monochrome one like someone above said.

Ahh, to have a choice like that. Right now, I'd like almost any car let alone a new or even used Subaru...

The car has to be white....company policy. That way if you leave, they can use it in their fleet.

He cares because I'm in an outside sales position and will be entertaining clients and sometimes I might have multiple people in the car, which means people in the back seat. The sunroof on the Legacy drops the ceiling about 2" from that of the Outback.
:(

I wish I could get the XT or 3.0 but that is not an option.

I think I'm going to give it one last try to get him to let me get the Legacy but I don't want to push it too hard really (being new and all) so unless he gives in easy I think I'm going to go with the Outback. I'm going to go test drive it in the morning.

I say take the Outback. Still give the Legacy one more solid go but if you have to 'settle' for the Outback I say go for it. When I got my Outback I felt like I was settling some since I still like the looks of a Legacy better. However, it has since grown on me very much as I'm sure yours will.

Just make sure you get a manual.

And fwiw, I voted 'A new Suby? Quit yer bitching!!!" :).

Agreed. My friend has one, and it looks really good.

As long as it is a manual, its all gravy.

Is it the outback wagon or the sedan?

I have a bad feeling that he's going to be stuck with a 2.5i automatic. Manual transmissions are very, very rare in any fleet of cars, no matter the size of the company.

Sucks that it must be white...

if anything push for a manual, might impress you clients

If you have to get an Outback and an auto, convince him to let you get a 3.0R!

Congrats on the new job Matt.

yeah either manual or 3.0L
make sure you tell him a manual will impress clients, even if it has nothing at all to do with what your selling (btw, what are you selling)

the XT makes more torque, but the EZ30R is just cool

I was trying to get a Legacy wagon but that's definitely out now. I got him to think about the Legacy sedan (test drove one today and ut was damn nice) or else I will have to get the Outback 2.5i wagon.

Anyway you cut it it will have to be white and most likely an auto. It sucks but because it's a fleet vehicle and not everyone can drive a manual yadayadayada.... + all the manuals around here ( I checked inventory at 3 dealers within 70 miles) are silver and I don't think my boss would let me order something in and then wait for it to be delivered. I test drove the 4eat w/sports shift today and really, it wasn't that bad. I was suprised because I thought I would hate it but since this is mainly going to be used for business and driving around big cities (all of PA and NJ) I think the auto might be good for traffic jams and such.

I'm trying to think positive. ;)

I really hope he lets me have the Legacy sedan because I test drove the Outback today too and it just didn't have the same feel at all. I mean, even the interior felt different (and it's not).

I'm a Sales Account Representative (Outside Sales) for Cable Services Company/Inc. They are a Distribution, Repair, Install and Construction Company mainly for CATV but also deal with Electricians and some TelCo. My job is to pretty much wine and dine existing, as well as potential, clients. Lunches, dinners, drinks, golf outings, things like that. Plus I have to go to vendor and trade shows as well as SCTE chapter meeting for PA and NJ.

I'm only on my second week and really haven’t gotten out of the office yet because I've been working on Quote Templates and stuff. I go to a Vendor show in Pittsburg next week though and get to go to a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament that Comcast throws too. It should be pretty fun, I'm excited.

I got a Laptop last week (nothing special but if I can get some good new accounts my boss said I can pick something new out of my choice ) and today I got a new 8703e Blackberry w/ Blue tooth headset ect.. The BB is fucking sweet! Then if I can get the Legacy sedan I will be sitting pretty.

So far, I love this job! Everyone is super cool, it pays very well and has the potential to pay extremely well if I get good sales numbers.

Ever since I let Subarina go, my luck has been changing for the good.

I know the feeling, Matt. Letting go of the past is a problem of mine, too, but since I've been moving beyond it, everything's been going pretty well. SOMEONE BUY MY DAMN CAR so it can get even better! Who do you deal with in telco? I'll be in PA for a few weeks for a job sometime soon and wondering if you'd have some relationship to the job I'll be doing (Nextel/Sprint). That's awesome you're doing well.

Too bad about white. Silver would be a smarter color for fleets since it looks cleaner longer. Maybe there's a pearl white or something. Either way, you can't argue with free. Maybe this could free you up to get a weekend toy with less need for daily driving compromise.

Even though it'll be a white auto 2.5i, an Outback is still great compared to a stupid Trailblazer.

I'd say take the Outback. Unless of course you can get the Legacy sedan. If I were in your situation right now, that's what I'd do as I'm strongly against anything american made, and a Subaru is a Subaru, right? Personally, I wouldn't be seen driving anything else, but that's just me...

With NAV, right? That's a business thing. You don't want to get lost and look bad in front of clients, you know.

Pics are needed... no... required.

It's gotta have leather and all that jazz too. Your doing the wine and dine work, you gotta be doing it in style!

We gotta do the Feed and Speed again!
