I started a new job last week, so with that and my GF moving in, I'm not sure how much time I'll have to paruse the boards. If you need anything, please email me, vs. PM'ing me. I'll respond a lot quicker to email.

Congrats on the new job. I trust it's a move that was made because you wanted to and are now in a better situation? Are you still in the gas piping business or did you get out of that altogether?

Thanks guys.
The move was made because I felt stagnent in the old job and wasn't really learning anything. The new job should provide me with more technical knowledge/experience, however things have been slow so far, and I'm not overly thrilled about some of the policies/more strict behavior....but we'll see. I started last week, and the first day sucked. It's gotten better, but I need some time to see how things pan out. If anything, I'll stay for a year or so, and then find something else if I don't like it.
I'm still in Houston, and still in the Oil & Gas industry. I work for URS Corp. They're a huge worldwide company. The Process & Energy group is relatively small...about 50 people in this office, however they want to expand to about 200 in the next two years....so if they do, it'll provide good room for upward growth.
I'm not sure what openings they have in HR. Our main HR office is based in New Orleans with a few HR support staff here in Houston. I'm sure if you wanted to move down here, you could probably find a job at one of the energy companies or contractors.
Yeah...new job & GF. It's one of those things....when it rains it pours. Her and I talked about her moving in a month or so before she moved in, but didn't expect her previous living situation to deteriorate as quickly as it did. So things happened quicker then we anticipated, but things are going well, and we haven't killed each other yet. I'm learning to be more laxed with my nit-pickiness and such. Which is probably something I could use
Hopefully I'll have time during lunch or what not to hop on the boards, I never really did much surfing at home even before my GF moved in.....but we'll see how things at the job go.

Well......I gave notice yesterday, and will be leaving this job for another in a week or so.
Things just haven't worked out too well here. I think the new one will though.

You did good to move on, you'll be healthier! Sounds like you are moving forward and feel good about it. Have fun.

Yeah....It's been a little tough. Co-workers at my last job said the engineering & consulting side of the business isn't all it's cracked up to be.....which I think may depend on the company. But this one just didn't have their act together. There is a lot of internal policies & procedures, internal bickering between groups/managers.....name calling.
I'm sorry, but I don't want to be a part of that. I think next tuesday will be my official last day. I'm going to take the remainder of next week & the following week off. I could use a little time off to unwind. I need to finish some projects around the house, put my new server up, find out why the impreza is clunking, etc.
I'm looking forward to the new job.

Congrats on making the right move for yourself. I know too many people who get stuck in a job they don't like and won't take the initiative to move. I'd say you're right in getting out of where you're at if it's turning into an internal pissing match. You're a better engineer than that and deserve a place that will respect what you bring to the table.
Best of luck with you new job!!

Well I know I've been MIA for a while. I apologize. I don't get on the boards much when I'm at home....and didn't get on while I was off for the previous week.
I started my new job this week. Things are good, however I don't have a computer yet, so hoping online hasn't been so easy.
I got the window fixed on the car, and found that my up-pipe was cracked.....so more things to fix

blackmail!

Wait, you don't surf the internet while on company time do you? Buy me an Autronic PnP and I won't tell your boss!
