Power Lock Problem

My driver side lock is having an issue. I get out of the car, put the key in the lock and turn it clockwise to lock the car. When I return to the car, I put the key in the lock and try to turn it counterclockwise to unlock the door but it just won't turn. It is fighting something in there. So, I have to go over to the passenger side, unlock that door, which unlocks just fine and reach across the interior of the car to open the door. Then, the only way I can get the doors to unlock using the driver door controls is to hit the unlock lever while holding the interior door handle open.
I took the door skin off this weekend to see if I could find the problem. Everything looked to be in good order. Of course, while I had it apart, I tested it many times and it worked just fine. So I put the skin back on the door and the next day the problem returned.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

Door lock actuator. Did the exact same thing before it started holding the door locked, forcing you to fight the lock and handle to open the door. Eventually it wouldn't work at all. Easy fix.

Is the actuator the part that holds onto the latch on the door frame?

It's a plastic box a little bigger than a cigarette pack with a nylon plunger that's connected to the lock linkage and is located at the lower rear side of the door (opposite the hinged end). The solenoid, for me, died in the lock position and kept trying to hold the door locked, requiring the lock button to be pushed with one hand and the handle pulled with the other hand. This happened to my passenger side while on a date with a smoking hot blonde. It's OK, though, I'm pretty sure my driving scared her off anyway. Alas, she would not be the last, but if they can't love me for me, screw 'em.

Ah ha, thanks for the pointer. I'll try to track down an actuator then.
I hope your driving scared her off because you were going too fast and not because you were swerving off the road. I've scared a girl or two in my day. My favorite driving story to do with smokin hot blondes is (anyone under age 18 stop reading) when I was in my Lexus SC400 doing 115mph with my hand my girlfriend's pants. The hotter she got, the faster we went. Mmmmmmmm, yummmy.
