What heads are compatible with the EJ22? Are they the DOHC 2.5 impreza 22 heads? if so dose this help performance wise by opening up more opportunity's to upgrade intake manifold and exhuast?

What are your plans?

Are you going for an n/a high revving motor? Turbo motor? A twin charged piston eating grenade like Doug?

The dohc heads would reduce your compression and would be a good choice if you plan on adding a turbo.

I am really not sure what heads you would want if you stay n/a, but we cant help you unless you are a little more specific.

I am planning to turbo the car later on like next year hopefully when I have the money, so I want to get the engine as ready as possible. With the DOHC heads is it a pain to time engine?

Im assuming timing would be the same as sohc, you just have to line up two extra cam gears on the belt - thats all...

The dohc heads will lower your compression and you will lose some low end power - when you get the turbo though, it should MORE than make up for it...

i thought that on DOHC you had to cams belt driven and they had a gear to drive the one below it

if your going with a high C/R N/A motor then wont you want to switch to EJ20 heads?
how much can you bore a EJ22E?

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to find a nice set of used EJ22T heads. That way you already have the plumbing necissary for oil and coolant for the turbo.

IIRC DOHC heads are interference heads (is my memory fading guys?). So you need to be a bit more careful in timing them.

And again IIRC there are certain heads that would require you to use a different intake manifold because of different spacing. All that information is here somewhere.
