went to the junkyard today because my rad is shot... I actually founda turbo Legacy in there which really surprised me... owner says its a 90 an I went an looked at it the only thing its missing is the alternator has 260 000 on it so I would imagine the tranny or the engine is shot either way its got a 5 spd and an ej22t ... he told me 350 Canadian an he will take it an set it on my double axle trailer.. being new to Subarus Im wondering if its worth it just to have the extra parts kicking around and also the engine block to build on ... car still has ecu... opinions??

It'd be a 91, and it's well worth 350 Canuckbucks. I'd be surprised if the engine and transmission weren't still usable because there are more than a few people on this board with as many kms as that, and some with more.

260000km is nothing i have 3218XX and its still going strong
91 turbo legacy = rear lsd those are worth some money as well
i say if you have the room, take it, use the parts and part it out a bit too

so if anything i could also use the engine block for a build up and possibly the 5MT

and the differential, and transmission crossmember, and ECU, and a lot of other little parts.

Maybe. It was optional.

What's wrong with it that prevents you from putting an alternator on it and running with it?
And for 350, you can't go wrong

No it was standard on the 91. If you look in the parts book I scanned, it lists the VLSD for the 91 MY only.

Hmmm...
Well, first off, I must point out that around these parts, we've long held steadfast to the notion that 91 turbos had OPTIONAL LSD's, and no other 90-94 Legacy had them

.
Further research brings up some issues.
Looking at 91 turbo rear diffs, I came across two part numbers:
1) 27011AA070, which has the SOA description of DIFFERENTIAL AY and has the notes "G/R = 3.900 W. VISCO LS" in the catalogue.
2) 27011AA131, which has the SOA description of DIFFERENTIAL AY LSD and has the notes "G/R = 3.900 W. VISCO LS LSD" in the catalogue.
The fact that both have VISCO suggests viscous obviously, which would suggest VLSD. But only the AA131 ever actually uses the letters LSD.
