Persistent, but so far undetectable, fuel leak

This has been going on for about seven months, and it's driving me bats.

So let's get the details, about seven months ago I started to smell gas, decided that I was overfilling it and I was smelling the gas from the recycle line. Everything was okay for a while until I got so bad in the car that you didn't want to light a cigarette. We traced that one down to where the gas lines come into the car, under the rear backseat, where one of the clamps had came loose and I had a nice puddle of gas.

Everything was fine for the balance of the winter, and now the gas smells back. Check under the rear seat no joy, but I do believe I smell it when I open the trunk.

Also you can detect no gas dripping on the ground.

So if any of you, have had a problem similar to this, I'd appreciate any information.

I had a similar issue and eventually found bad fuel lines under the car in front of the driver side rear wheel. It's the same point you are referring to. If you didn't replace the flexible fuel lines when you tightened the clamp, you should go back and check them. Mine were starting to disintegrate and weep fuel. I just replaced the fuel send and return lines at that point. Be sure to use hose that is specifically intended for fuel injection systems! Cheap fix, but it's a little messy and difficult to get your hands up into that location.
